Maharashtra to revise eligibility criteria for admission to engineering courses. According to the reports, the state government decided to revise the eligibility criteria and other rules for admission to engineering and other technical-vocational courses to provide students of the state a greater opportunity to study within Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Uday Samant, who also holds the Technical Education portfolio, said that the decision is “in the interest of the students of Maharashtra”.

Mr Samant through his social media handle, said, “Admission eligibility and rules for admission to engineering and technical vocational courses in the state will soon be revised in the interest of the students of Maharashtra.”

The official tweet posted by Minister Uday Samant is given below:

He further added, “This will provide an opportunity to more and more students to get education in the state itself.”

Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Maharashtra government came out as the first one to take a stern decision against the conduction of the final exams of professional and non-professional courses.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to instruct regulatory bodies like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) endorse state government's decision. Maharashtra is also the first state that refused to give permission to the national Boards such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to conduct board exams for Class 10 ad 12.
