IIT Delhi gets Rs 1 crore grant to set up fellowship programme
The fellow will get an annual grant of Rs 12 lakh to support his/her research and it will be awarded initially for five years.ย
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has received Rs 1 crore from the Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi Foundation to establish โVipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi Distinguished Fellowshipโ. The awardee will receive an annual grant of Rs 12 lakh to support his/her research and it will be awarded initially for five years, the institute said.ย Vivek Pathak, trustee, Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi Foundation, and Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, have signed a minimum of understanding (MoU) to set up the fellowship.ย
The foundation had earlier established the โVipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi Chair in Policy Studiesโ at IIT Delhiย as a way of initiating the area of public policy at the institute.ย
A book titled โDevelopment and Sustainability- Third World Challengeโ authored by Prof Chaturvedi was also unveiled on the occasion.ย
Pathak said, โThe Chaturvedi foundationย recognisesย that over the years IIT Delhiโs growth has been synonymous with the growth in both quality and quantity of its faculty. The Chaturvedi foundation would like to help IIT Delhi in its drive to move to the next level of performance by putting in place a scheme that would facilitate attracting outstanding talent to the institute.โย
Prof Rao said, โIIT Delhi continues to focus on research, which benefits the society and the industry. The institute has in the past few years established new academic units andย programmesย in materials, artificial intelligence, energy, transportation, electric vehicles, design,ย etc, and we hope this fellowship will help us attract top researchers from around the world and provide a fillip to these initiatives.โย
