Mumbai University BBM results row: College forgot to submit marks

KPB Hinduja College of Commerce, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, had forgotten to submit the marks of the practical project due to which students were marked absent.

Mumbai University announced the results of Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) on December 7, 2020, wherein students from KPB Hinduja College of Commerce failed as they were marked absent. It was found that college authorities had forgotten to submit the marks of the third-year BMM examination to the university.

According to an official from the examination department of Mumbai University, “The results were announced on the night of January 7, and by morning, the next day, we received a series of complaints from students. It was noted that the maximum complaints came from students of KPB Hinduja College located in South Mumbai. After an inquiry into the matter, we found that the institute had not submitted marks for a subject altogether.”

All third-year BMM students appeared for five theory papers while the sixth subject is a practical project, for which students are assessed by external examiners in college. These marks are supposed to be submitted by respective colleges to the university, which the college administration forgot to submit.

The cause of the problem was identified only on January 9. “We received a letter of apology from the college principal along with the marks of all their third-year BMM students. The rectification of marks is now underway and students will be informed of their new results soon,” said a senior official from MU.

“The problem has been solved, and we have directly contacted the university with our response,” said Minu Madlani, principal, KPB Hinduja College of Commerce.
