Praxis Business School launches programme to provide digital literacy to rural students

The way to empowerment is through education. In a nation where more than half of its population is still struggling to gain access to a formal educational process, inspiring the students from the deprived sections of the society becomes an important social responsibility for an educational institution such as Praxis Business School.
Praxis Business School, as a part of the National Digital Literacy Project, launched a Digital Literacy Program in September 2019. Playing a constructive role, the academic institution initiated this programme to meet the increasing demand among rural India students and train them to be digitally educated, as part of the country’s modernisation project.

The institution believes that the way to empowerment is through education. In a nation where more than half of its population is still struggling to gain access to a formal educational process, inspiring the students from the deprived sections of the society becomes an important social responsibility for an educational institution such as Praxis Business School.

While we talk about digitisation, modernisation, innovations and inventions, there is a major portion from rural and underdeveloped segment who are deprived of the benefits of the country’s progress. The youth needs proper guidance and must be equipped with the right educational infrastructure and resources.

According to Professor Charanpreet Singh, Founder-Director, Praxis Business School Foundation, digital literacy brings huge improvements to the socio-economic disparity in a community at large.

"Digital literacy allows students to explore various opportunities in terms of growth, development, higher education infrastructure, and jobs."

The Digital Literacy Program seeks to empower a technologically disadvantaged community by providing information that will eventually concentrate on increasing grass-root-level digital and general literacy.

Praxis Business School students are on a mission to spread awareness and knowledge about Digital Literacy's value and relevance. Students perform proactively workshops in local rural schools that do not have the infrastructure and services needed to deliver online education.

Professor Singh also added that since Praxis works at the intersection of industry, technology and education, it is very rational for them to contribute to strengthening the nation's digital literacy.

For instance, students studying at Shamali Bholanath High School are taught topics such as introduction to web, social media, word, server, use of Gmail, online security & digital citizenship, spreadsheet and presentation. There are a few more rural schools where students of Praxis Business School aim to teach online literacy-related topics in the months ahead.
