The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is accepting forms for NIOS Admission 2027 for 10th and 12th Class. Students who take admission now can sit for their first exam in the September-October 2027 session. The last date to apply without any late fee is January 31, 2027.

Students who miss this date can still apply, but they will have to pay a late fee. From February 1 to 15, 2027, the late fee is Rs 260. It goes up to Rs 520 from February 16 to 28, 2027, and Rs 910 from March 1 to 15, 2027. The full process is online on the NIOS student portal, sdmis.nios.ac.in. Students need to fill the form, upload documents and pay the fee there.

To apply for NIOS 10th, a student must have passed 8th Class (or give a self-certificate) and be at least 14 years old on January 31, 2027. For NIOS 12th, a student must have passed 10th Class from a recognised board and be at least 15 years old on the same date. Eligibility for NIOS Admission 2027

Students must meet the age and qualification rules before filling the NIOS admission form. The rules are different for 10th and 12th Class. Once admission is done, students can check the NIOS 10th syllabus to plan their studies.

Age Criteria for NIOS Admission 2027

For admission till March 2027, age is counted as on January 31, 2027.

There is no upper age limit for NIOS admission.

Educational Qualification

NIOS 10th admission: The student should have passed 8th Class. Students who do not have an 8th Class certificate can give a self-certificate saying they are ready to study at the 10th Class level.

NIOS 12th admission: The student must have passed 10th Class from a recognised board. For 12th admission, only the 10th Class certificate is accepted as proof of age.

NIOS Admission 2027 Last Date for September-October Exam

Students can apply without late fee till January 31, 2027. After that, the form stays open with a late fee till March 15, 2027. The dates are the same for both 10th and 12th Class. The exam dates will be shared later in the NIOS date sheet.

NIOS Admission Schedule 2026-27

NIOS takes admissions twice in a session. Block 1 runs from March to September for the March-April exam. Block 2 runs from September to March for the September-October exam. The full schedule is given below.

How to Apply for NIOS Admission 2027

NIOS admission can be done only online. Students can follow these steps to fill the form:

1. Visit the NIOS student portal, sdmis.nios.ac.in.
2. Go to Admission, then Academic, and click on Stream 1 (OCT. 2027).
3. Select your State/UT, ID type, ID number and course (Secondary or Senior Secondary), then submit.
4. Fill in basic details like name, parents' names, date of birth, mobile number and email ID.
5. Verify your mobile number and email ID through OTP. Login details will come on your email.
6. Fill in address, category and medium of study. For 12th Class, also add your 10th Class board, roll number and marks.
7. Select your subjects.
8. Choose up to three study centres in order of preference.
9. Upload scanned copies of the required documents.
10. Check the full form and pay the fee online.

The fee must be paid within 10 days of filling the form. If the form is filled near the last date, the fee must be paid within 5 days of that last date.

Documents Required for NIOS Admission 2027

Students need to upload scanned copies of their original documents. Keep these ready before filling the form:

• Recent passport-size colour photo
• Signature (black ink is better)
• ID proof like Aadhaar card, passport, ration card or bank account details
• Date of birth proof for 10th Class, like birth certificate, passport, school leaving certificate or Aadhaar card
• Address proof like Aadhaar card, ration card, voter ID, or water, electricity or phone bill
• 8th Class marksheet or self-certificate for 10th Class admission
• 10th Class marksheet or certificate for 12th Class admission
• Caste certificate for SC, ST or OBC students
• Disability certificate, if applicable
• Ex-serviceman certificate, if applicable

NIOS Admission Fees 2027

Students have to pay the admission fee online to complete the NIOS registration. The fee depends on the course and the student's category.

An extra Rs 70 is charged for the online application form.

Note: The admission fee does not include the exam fee. Students have to pay the exam fee separately on the dates given by NIOS.

NIOS Admission Status and Next Steps

After submitting the form and fee, students can check their admission status by logging in to the NIOS student portal. Once NIOS checks the documents and fee, the admission is confirmed. After that:

• The enrolment number is sent through email and SMS.
• The NIOS ID card can be downloaded from the student portal.
• Study material is sent to the student's address free of cost.
• Students must pay the exam fee separately to appear in the September-October 2027 exam.
