- NIOS has divided the subjects for class 12 into six groups namely Group A, B, C, D, E and F.
- Group A consists language subjects while other groups include subjects from Science, Commerce, Humanities and others.
- Each student has to select a minimum 5 subjects in total while applying for NIOS admission 2026.
- It is mandatory to choose one language subject from group A and other subjects can be chosen from any group.

Students can choose five subjects. It can be either one or two languages from Group A. They can select the remaining subjects from Group B, C, D, E and F (only one subject from each group C, D, E and F).
Two additional subjects can be taken from any group (only one subject from each group C, D, E and F) with additional fee according to the NIOS norms.
NIOS 12th Exam 2026: Guidelines for Exam
- Students should enter the examination hall before the exam starts.
- They must carry their NIOS 12th admit card 2026.
- They should not carry mobile phones or any other barred electronic items to the examination centre.
- All students must read and adhere to the important instructions mentioned in the NIOS 12th hall ticket 2026.
- They should carry the required stationery items and water bottle if needed.
- They must leave for the examination centre keeping in mind the weather, traffic conditions etc.
- Students must not do any unfair practices.

FAQs on NIOS 12th Syllabus
For NIOS 12th exam, each subject paper will be conducted for 100 Marks. This 100 marks involve theory, internal, and practical components. The internal assessment will have a weightage of 10 marks, and the practical exam will carry 30 marks. The time duration of the NIOS board exam is 3 Hours. Students should understand the NIOS exam pattern and prepare accordingly. The grading of subjects is made of two parts, Tutor Marked Assignments, or TMAs and the final examinations.
