NIOS Grading System 2026: National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) declared the Apr-May NIOS result 2026 class 10. The board released the NIOS 10th result 2026 on its website at results.nios.ac.in. The students can now check their Class 10th result 2026 NIOS using their enrollment number. Earlier on June 4, the board also released the NIOS 12th Board Result 2026. The board prescribed the NIOS 2026 evaluation system which is also available on the board's official website. The board  conducted 10th and 12th NIOS board exam 2026 from April 10 to May 6, 2026.

Students who are appearing in the examination must know the NIOS Grading System 2026 class 10 and 12 to know how marks are allotted during the preparation of NIOS 10th Board Result 2026 and NIOS class 12 result 2026. However, having an understanding of NIOS grading system will help them to evaluate their scores and raise griviences, if required. NIOS Grading System Explained

While checking answer sheets and preparing NIOS Results 2026, board follows a method different from traditional boards that use a percentage-based marking system. Instead of showing subject-wise marks in percentages, NIOS board uses a grading system, where grades are given based on students’ performance in exams and assignments for their respective classes.

Subjects available for students at the secondary level include Hindi English Urdu, Sanskrit, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Assamese, Nepali, Malayalam, Arabic, Persian, Tamil, Sindhi, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science; Psychology, Indian Culture and Heritage, Painting, Data Entry Operations, Accountancy, Hindustan Music, Carnatic Music, Veda Adhyan, Sanskrit Vyakaran, Bharatiya Darshan, Sanskrit Sahitya. 80% score in NIOS 12th exam is considered as a good mark to get into reputed colleges. Students can apply for merit seat for degree course in top colleges. They can also try entrance exams. 

Q:   How many subjects are compulsory in NIOS 12th exam?
A: 

NIOS has divided subjects for class 12 into six groups. They are Group A, B, C, D, E and F. Group A consists language subjects while other groups include subjects from Science, Commerce, Humanities and others. Each student has to select a minimum 5 subjects in total while applying for NIOS admission. It is mandatory to choose one language subject from group A and other subjects can be chosen from any group. At Senior Secondary level, subjects are divided into Group A and Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E and Group F.

Q:   What is the NIOS 10th exam qualifying cut-off?

Students have to score 33% of the total marks to qualify the NIOS Class 10 exam. For 10th and 12th, they have to score a minimum of 33% in the aggregate in the practical and theory exams.

NIOS Grading System 2026: No concept of Exam Failing

NIOS 2026 exam Grading System does not include concept of failing the board exam. Calling it as one of its key features, NIOS takes pride in giving students a chance to continue their education. Even if a student scores less than 33%, they are awarded a Grade E. This process ensures that every candidate gets an opportunity to continue their education and improve their performance.

Q:   Which courses can I pursue after class 10th?

Students can join for Plus two course after the 10th grade. Those who do not wish to go for 12th can join for Diploma engineering courses, ITI, poly technic courses, Diploma in hotel management, Diploma in fashion technology, Diploma in pharmacy etc. Even though there are so many Diploma courses, students are advised to complete 12th grade and then join degree course for better career growth. 

Q:   Can I join for BTech course even if I fail in 12th grade?

Yes, you can join B Tech through lateral entry admission. For this you have to do Polytechnic Diploma course from government authorized Polytechnic college. It is mandatory to pass 10th grade to join the 3 year Polytechnic Diploma course. Once you successfully complete Polytechnic course, you can appear for the Lateral entry entrance test and if you clear the entrance exam, you will get admission to second year of the B Tech course. 

Q:   How many attempts are allowed for NIOS 12th exam?

NIOS allows students to attempt NIOS 12th board exam twice in a year. NIOS board exams are held in April/May and Oct/Nov. 

Q:   Can I get admission in GL Bajaj Noida for B.Tech with 60% in Class 12th?
A: 

No, only 60% in your class 12 grades will not allow you immediate admission to the B.Tech programme at the GL Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management in Greater Noida. A higher overall score and a strong performance on the necessary entry exams are prerequisites for eligibility.

To be admitted directly to the B.Tech programme, you need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • At least 80% overall in Class 12, where Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are required courses
  • Pass the UPCET entrance test or JEE Main.

It is feasible to lateral into the second year of a B.Tech programme if you possess:

  • Completed a three-year engineering programme in any discipline
  • Completed a three-year B.Sc. programme.
  • Passed the 10+2 exam, specialising in mathematics
  • At least 45% of the possible points on the qualifying exam
Traditional Evaluation System NIOS Grading System
Traditional boards measure students’ performance, typically ranging from 0% to 100%. Also, a set passing percentage varies from board to board. Students are under pressure to score above a certain threshold to pass board exams. Unlike traditional evaluation system, NIOS evaluates students’ overall performance rather than just assigning passing marks. grading system also encourages continuous learning and improvement, without students being labelled failures.

NIOS Result 2026: Pass and Certification Criteria

NIOS 2026 Evaluation System: Theory, Practical, and TMA Weightage Highlights

The evaluation system highlights for the theory, practical and tutor marked assignment is provided below: 

  • TMA Weightage: Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) carry 20% weightage of the total theory marks in most subjects.
  • Passing Aggregate: While Class 10 allows the TMA marks to help students getting 33% passing marks, Class 12 students have to score 33% in the written theory exam.
  • Practical Components: For subjects like Painting and Data Entry, the practical exam carries more weight (60–70 marks) than the theory exam.
