The abysmal condition of Law Colleges in India.
Placements: Hardly anyone pursuing law in our college receives placement, none of whom I am aware of. Students need to fight for themselves and get a job on their own. Recruiters include law firms and chambers of lawyers in West Bengal. I am sure 0% of B.A. LL.B. students received placement with the assistance of the college.
Infrastructure: The college is functional in a rented building with almost no infrastructure. There are no walls, only plywood separating classes. There is no facility for Wi-Fi for students. The library is also very small, with an acute shortage of books and other facilities like Manupatra, LiveLaw, etc.
Faculty: Although we have a few good teachers, most teachers just give a thorough reading, which is the least engaging and pretty boring. Although studies are taken seriously, the University of Burdwan has a very bad record of publishing results, and they are out after almost 1 year. The semester exams are very tough, with almost 60 percent of the students having a backlog in some subject or other. The course curriculum is relevant, but important subjects like land law are not present in our syllabus.
Other: I chose this course for the reason of being flexible and evergreen. Along with it, work in this field is unlimited and scalable. There should be possibilities of quick and equitable change in the syllabus because law is very dynamic and is always changing. There are no events, fests, campus activities, or extracurricular activities in our college, which are very essential in our field.
