Faculty: It is a Grants-in-Aid co-education college, affiliated with the University of Calcutta, catering to three streams: Arts, Science, and Commerce. There are a total of 15 academic departments, out of which nine are in the Arts stream, five in the Science stream, and one in the Commerce stream, with Honors in 12 subjects.

Faculty: Department of Computer Science offers an undergraduate degree in Computer Science under the University of Calcutta. The Computer Science department of Maheshtala College started its journey in the year 2001, initially offering only the General Course. From the year 2005, the department began offering the honours course. The primary goal of the department is to provide both basic and advanced quality education in Computer Science at the undergraduate level.
