Commonly asked questions
On Fees and Eligibility
Q:   Can I carry the NID question paper with me after the exam?
A:
No, the candidate is not allowed to carry the question paper of the NID exam with them after conclusion of the exam. In fact, the question papers of NID will not be released neither for that Prelims or that Mains. The reason for the non release of the question paper is because the NID question papers are highly subjective in nature. The question paper of NID DAT will be set in English language. Note that the candidate can download unofficial versions of the NID question papers released by the coaching institutes. These question papers will be mostly memory-based, compiled with the help of questions shared by candidates.
Q:   In how many streams does NID Gandhinagar offers MDes course to the students?
A:

NID Gandhinagar offers full-time residential two-and-a-half-year MDes courses to students across seven disciplines. The specialisations in which the programme is offered are:

  • Lifestyle Accessory Design
  • Apparel Design
  • New media design
  • Toy and Game Design
  • Photography Design
  • Strategic Design Management
  • Transportation & Automobile Design
Q:   Is the NID DAT exam very difficult to crack?
A:
NID DAT, along with NIFT and UCEED are among the most competitive national-level entrance exams in the country. The fact that there are only 425 seats for the B. Des and 347 seats for the M.Des programme makes it very competitive. But that being said, if the candidate prepares well and with the correct strategy, then the NID DAT exam can be cracked. Among the first things the candidate needs to do is prepare a efficient study timetable, get familiar with the syllabus and pattern, and use good books as reference material.

Overall best college for M.Des. in New Media Design course.
Placements: Hiring process is different in our college. Almost 75% of our team got placements, and the same was true for our seniors. Number of companies visiting the campus increases every year. Maximum salary offered was around 26 LPA. Minimum salary offered was around 4 LPA. Prominent recruiters include Total, Aquent, The Creative Group, and Robert Half, among others. Notable positions available include Graphic Designer, Art Director, etc. About 70% of students received their internships.
Infrastructure: Amenities and resources at our college are quite impressive in comparison to those of numerous other colleges. Equipment must increase its efforts to gain more knowledge in that area. We receive 1 GB of data daily on the ultra-fast network. Laboratories, classrooms, and libraries exist worldwide. Quality of the food is lacking, yet it is a good value for the price.
Faculty: Faculty gets a rating of seven out of ten. They are skilled, well-educated, and competent. Students receive support from faculty members. In the past, case studies and examples have helped us to understand the issue. Through university placement, students are encouraged and supported to secure relevant employment opportunities. In semester exams, 79% of students pass.

M.Des. in Strategic Design Management - Batch of 2018

Best design school for post graduate studies.
Placements: Placements are good here but maybe depend on how you approach it. Apart from the retrace, normally the graduates pitch their projects to the companies for a better placement offer. The market is quite vast for SDM, one can go in any interest line and get into a good profile. People do either internship during summer or work vastly on self projects with constant guidance from faculty members.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is mostly basic and good. We don't require a lot of machines or devices to carry out, so simple classrooms with good furnitures is what SDM studio looks like. Hostel accommodation is available, you could opt to stay outside in a flat. Food in mess is very good. Good enough sport facilities are available.
Faculty: Faculty members here are very good with a commendable industry experience. We have various guest faculty members too, to add on to our course. Teaching methods are quite innovative and encourages a lot of interaction. Course curriculum is vast and wide spread, with good inputs from various industry visits. Student-faculty ratio is about 5:1.
Other: Campus is one of the best, secluded, well maintained, open and quite. Away from the crowd, yet all amenities are available very near. Hostel and food is very nice. Hostel is in sharing basis, beds of 2 or 3.
