The selection process for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme in India typically involves a comprehensive evaluation of candidates' skills, aptitude, and creativity. While the process may differ among institutions, here's a general overview:Entrance Exams: Many design institutes, including premier ones like the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), conduct entrance examinations. These exams assess candidates' aptitude in design, creativity, logical reasoning, general awareness, and other relevant areas. The NIFT Entrance Exam evaluates applicants through the General Ability Test (GAT), Creative Ability Test (CAT), and Situation Test.Portfolio Review: Institutes often require candidates to submit a portfolio showcasing their creative work, design projects, sketches, artwork, or any other relevant projects that demonstrate their artistic skills and design abilities. This portfolio is evaluated to understand the candidate's creative potential and thought process.Interviews/Situation Test: Shortlisted candidates might undergo interviews or situation tests where they are assessed on their knowledge, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and suitability for the program.Academic Performance: Previous academic records, particularly in the qualifying examination (e.g., Class 12 or equivalent), may also play a role in the selection process. Some institutions set minimum academic requirements, such as a certain percentage or grade cutoff.Regarding the minimum percentile required for admission to B.Des programs, it varies across institutes and can range from approximately 70% to 90%, depending on the institution's standards, the competition level, and the specific course specialisation within the B.Des program.
