Diploma in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2019

Satisfied after taking addmission in Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic.
Placements: The placement for the internship of our batch was too good. Mr Vanvari sir led us during the time of the placement and. The stipend offered to us varies from 5000 rupees to 3000 rupees excluding travelling charges. The roles offered to various students were Junior Supervisor etc. The students were placed percentage-wise.
Infrastructure: The quality of food available in the college canteen is good but not excellent. Medical facilities is also available in the college also there is a gymkhana and Wi-Fi cables. The classroom and labs are neat but the colour paint on the walls is a little bit dull. Some of the benches are also broken as well. Also, there are no hostel facilities available in the college.
Faculty: I think the civil faculty team is the best in the college. All of them are good in nature, are well educated as well as have good teaching skills. The curriculum is also good with 6 months of internship in the 3rd year and another 6 months of internship in the 4th year. Also, the various subjects in the curriculum are good to understand the basics of civil engineering and design of some components.
Other: I also request others to take admission in this college especially in civil engineering. The college is neat and tidy throughout the day. The washroom is also neat, and there is also proper electricity flow throughout every classroom. But there is only one problem which is the scarcity of a lift. The lift is only available for faculty members while the students have to climb 3 floors to reach their classroom.

Diploma in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2020

It is a deemed college for civil engineering.
Placements: As it is a diploma college, after diploma most of the students go for a degree course. However, in the last semester only in SBMP, you will get an opportunity of 6 months internship which make you industry-ready. The batch consists of around 55-60 students. For all the students, an internship is mandatory.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is the best as compared to any polytechnic colleges in Mumbai. There are the best facilities with air-conditioned building, Wi-Fi, beautiful classrooms, the best library, seminar hall, sports room, laboratories, canteen, etc. Overall, the facilities are very good. In sports, there are 2 old table tennis table and carrom boards in boys common room. In girls common room, there is a new table tennis set where they don't play on in it. Instead, they eat on the table tennis table, which is a waste of money. The college does not pay attention to sports and games.
Faculty: The course curriculum is very helpful, and as the college is autonomous, the curriculum is updated once in 3 years. In the civil department, professors are well-experienced, and the civil course is the oldest and prestigious branch of SBMP. Professor named Vanvari is the head of the civil department, has a wonderful experience in the project management department as he has worked in many projects. Professor named Ak. Singh owns a structural department firm, and other professors have also got a wide experience in their respective fields. An honest drawback of the system is that some of the professors are very strict with the term works and assignments sometimes, and because of all this, you get a lot of stress which deviates you from studies. You may get a drop of one year. In the civil department, some professors have made it difficult to score good marks in some of their respective subjects. After scoring 85-92 marks out of 100 marks in theory examinations of all the subjects, my percentage went down to 78% due to internal marks, i.e., viva and term work which also consists of 100 marks. It is in all the colleges of Maharashtra and India where there is much importance on assignments, drawings, term works and attendance instead of real knowledge, skills and practical knowledge. Overall, the civil department is the best, and when you are in a system, you can't change. You just have to deal with it. After 10th, you can in either aided with 30 seats or un-aided 30 seats. The aided fee is less, i.e., nearly Rs. 10,000 per year and the un-aided fee is around 1 lac per year. The aided cut off in the open is a competitive cutoff which changes from year to year. Our cutoff was near 84-85%. The admission process is very inconvenient.
Other: Internship of 6 months is the best part where you get a clear idea about the practical work, get the most of it and learn from it. The crowd is good, but it depends on an individual how to deal with people. You won't get a good chance to participate in the fests and events much as all the time you need to engage with your academics, although you can manage if you want to participate.
