The four-year Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme is offered in four specialisations, I.e., Communication Design, Foundation Programme, Industrial Design and Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design. Communication Design has four disciplines: Film And Video Communication, Exhibition Design, Animation Film Design and Graphic Design.

A pass in Class 12 in any stream is required to apply for the BDes course. Only Indian citizens born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible for admission under the General Category or the General EWS Category. Applicants born on or after 1 July 2000 in the Reserved Category (Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layers (OBCNCL), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) may apply.For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

• Educational Qualification: Candidates may apply for the academic year 2023-24 who have passed or will appear for the higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2022–23 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from a recognised educational board like CBSE, IB, ICSE, or equivalent.

Admission to the BDes course is based on marks secured by the candidate in NID DAT exam. Candidates who meet the NID DAT cut-off are considered for the further admission process for BDes admission 2024-25. The application fee of NID DAT 2026 for the B. Des for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates is INR 3,000. SC, ST, PwD candidates only ned to pay INR 1,500. However note that the application fees for overseas candidates seeking admission to supernumerary seats is INR 5000. In case of the M.Des programme, the application fees for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates applying for one discipline is INR 3,000. If two disciplines are chosen, the application fee is INR 6000. Meanwhile, SC, ST, PwD candidate need to pay INR 1,500 for one discipline, and INR 3000 for two disciplines.

No you can not join NID Ahmedabad directly since admissions are based on  NID DAT scores only. NID DAT is two-step exam consisting:

Prelims: Objective-type CBT focusing on design aptitude, general knowledge, and observation skills. 

Mains: Studio tests + PI to evaluate design thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
