1. One Does Not Simply Crack JEE Without Studying
Coaching institutes are flourishing in recent times as they are giving quality coaching required for IIT JEE preparation. However, while coaching institutes are a boon to students but it is a myth of our society that only by joining a coaching class, students can clear IIT JEE Mains and Advanced. There are some brilliant minded students out there, who can get a good score in JEE by self- studying. As a matter of fact, each year, around 50% students crack IIT- JEE without attending any coaching. However, these students have to focus hard to prepare well and strictly follow a time table to achieve that.
2. Read All the Books!
There is no dearth of the amount of advice the students will get during JEE preparation. The most important part of JEE preparation is the study material you refer. While many students refer several books, others feel that studying only NCERT books is sufficient for clearing the prestigious JEE. NCERT books will help you in learning basic concepts and assist in problem solving and thus are very important. However, only depending on those books is equally wrong as while referring them is important, studying only NCERT books is in no way sufficient to clear JEE. For broadening knowledge and increasing the difficulty level of preparation, it is important to refer various other books along with NCERT books.
3. When You See Hostel Food!
As an IITian, you have to live in a hostel and consume the food given by them. Hostel food tastes good but it’s not that students will lick their fingers every time after finishing the food. At times, the food is so bad that they have to use their mother’s recipe to fill their stomach, but students, who never took interest in cooking at home, will end up eating maggi.
4. Computer Science is Not the only cool choice
The IITs offer several streams for students to choose from. Obviously, JEE toppers get the desired courses in top IITs, while others with lower ranks have to be content with what they get. It is the biggest myth that only those students get placed in good companies, who choose Computer Science and others are left to fend for themselves. Other students get equal opportunities. However, all of them need to be a good all- rounder’s and also show active participation in co- curricular activities to catch the eye and earn that white-collar job.
5. Not all IITians want to bell the CAT
While there is no dearth of opportunities for IIT graduates, not all IIT students prepare CAT exam to get into prestigious IIMs or attempt UPSC exams. It is just that few IIT students who clear these exams are in the news only because they are from IITs. There are several other students who choose to do other things than just attempting these entrance exams.
6. Starting a start-up is one option
Many have jumped into the bandwagon of start- up revolution in recent times. While it is a fact that many IITians have started and successfully run start-ups, it is not at all true that all IITians have start- ups. Our society has the bad habit of generalizing everything. IITians have several things to do after getting graduated from prestigious IITs and it solely depends on an individual what they want to pursue.
7. JEE is a real tough exam.
IIT JEE is one of the toughest engineering exams in India and not everyone clears it at first attempt. While many students lose hope after failing to qualify for admissions, there are few candidates who drop a year and prepare again for IIT JEE. Those who drop a year are not losers as they want to get into prestigious IIT at any cost. These students are more prepared than the previous year and have an experience of attending JEE once. There are several students who cracked JEE in their 2nd or 3rd attempt and went on to become successful engineers.
As an ex- IITian, you have experienced a lot of things and it is a very good idea to share so that the next lot of aspiring IITians can get their myths busted or have a laugh at these funny facts. While it is tough to crack IIT JEE and get an admission in prestigious IITs, it is worth the hard work and dedication when you achieve your dream of getting an IIT degree. So, ignore the myths and pull up your socks for JEE preparation.
