Q. According to you, what is the minimum time frame needed to prepare well for JEE Main? How long did you prepare for it? What was your preparation strategy?

A. Although the complete preparation lasts long, however a thorough revision can be done in about 2 months. Plan your revision for the Board exams and JEE Mains together as the syllabus for them are almost same.

Q. Is it necessary to join a coaching institute or is self-study good enough? What study plan did you follow for your prep?

A. The whole idea of joining a coaching institute is that it provides you support and guidance during preparation.  Self-study is much more important to clear any competitive examination. So joining a coaching is recommended but not entirely necessary.

For my preparation, I devoted sufficient time for self-study apart from coaching. Daily practice was a must for me.

Q. How did you divide your time between chapters/section? Which chapters/sections did you spend more time on?

A. The time you spend on a particular chapter/section depends upon -  (i)No. of questions asked in previous years,  (ii)Your comfort level with the chapter. The time division on a chapter/section is totally subjective and can vary for two individuals depending on their comfort levels.

I spent more time on these chapters/sections:

Mathematics: Integration, Conic sections, Complex numbers

Physics: Rigid body dynamics, Fluid mechanics, Electromagnetic induction, Modern Physics

Chemistry: Electro-chemistry, Carbonyl compounds, P-block elements

Q. How did you work on improving your weak areas?

A. Firstly, identify your weak areas and spend more time on these sections. In mathematics and physics, problem solving is the most effective way to improve upon them. In chemistry, you need to devote time to studying theory. You can refer multiple books for better conceptual clarity.

Q. How much time did you spend on revision?

A. I spent about 6 weeks for revision for JEE Mains and almost the same time for Advanced as well.

Q. Any useful study material/ reference books you can recommend to JEE MAIN aspirants?

A. NCERT textbooks are  your Bible for Mains. You must be thorough with them.

Q. What did you do right to crack it?

A. Honest and dedicated hard work is the most important thing. I have had a passion for academics from the beginning and I followed this passion to crack JEE.

Q. 5 top tips for JEE Advanced 2015?

(i) Maintain your calm during the paper.

(ii) If you are unable to solve a question don't get stuck on it. Skip to the next question and return to it later.

(iii) Do not ignore any mistake. Try to improve upon them.
