JEE Advanced 2016 Exam Analysis by Careerpoint!

JEE Advanced 2016 was conducted on May 22, 2016 across various test centres all over India. This year the exam was held in two parts- Paper 1 and Paper 2, wherein the paper 1 was conducted in the first half, and the paper 2 was held in the second half. There were 10 versions of the exam paper, which contained single answer correct type MCQs, multiple answer correct type MCQs and integer answer type MCQs. According to the students, this year the paper was more logical than being calculative.

The most important entrance exam of engineering in India, JEE Advanced (Previously known as IIT-JEE) was conducted in two parts- Paper 1 (in 10 codes, code-0 to 9) held between 9 AM to 12 PM and Paper 2, conducted from 2 PM to 5 PM.

Paper 1: The Paper 1 of JEE Advanced 2016 had a total number of 54 questions, 18 in each subject, out of which 5 questions were of single correct option type, having 3 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for every wrong answer.  Eight questions were of Multiple Correct Option Type with 4 marks for each correct answer, partial marks +1 for darkening a bubble corresponding to each correct option, 0 marks if none of the bubble is darkened, -2 for all other cases and remaining 5 questions were of Numerical Response Type with having 3 marks for each correct answer and no negative marking for wrong answer. It is clearly visible that, this paper had 50% multiple option correct type questions and because of this, it would be difficult to score marks in this paper.

Paper 2: Paper 2 had a total number of 54 questions; 18 in each subject, out of which 6 questions were of single correct option type with 3 marks for each correct answer and -1marks for every wrong answer, 8 questions were of Multiple Correct Option Type, having 4 marks for each correct answer, partial marks +1 for darkening a bubble corresponding to each correct option,0 marks if none of the bubble is darkened, -2 for all other cases and remaining 2 questions were of Paragraph Type with 2 multiple choice questions in each paragraph, having 3 marks for each correct answer and no negative marking for wrong answer. This was definitely a lengthy paper with having 60% multiple choice multiple correct type questions.

Paper 1

  • Weightage of class XI 45% & XII 55%

Paper 2

  • Paper is logical and Lengthy

• Calculations are exhaustive

• Paper is tough in comparison to Paper 1

  • It was Above Average paper
  • It was in accordance with previous year’s paper and some of the questions were above average.
  • Overall this paper can be considered as a scoring paper

Paper 2

  • Paper is difficult and conceptual
  • Some of the questions in the paper are tricky and requires Logical Reasoning
  • Low scoring Paper

Mathematics

Paper 1

  • Examiner had continued Mathematics paper credibility & quality likewise every year’s Math’s paper
  • Paper was innovative and some questions had lengthy calculations
  • Overall paper was lengthy and calculative but it covered complete syllabus as prescribed in JEE advanced syllabus and distribution of questions were very good 

Paper 2

  • Paper 2 follows the legacy of IIT’s
  • In this paper they mainly focused on calculus part and this shows they want to judge the analytical ability of students
  • Questions were not simply based on formulas but needed lateral thinking also
  • Paper was above average overall, good students can score well but for average students there is nothing in this paper
