How I chose my course & college: Rahul Dayama
Since childhood, I was a technology enthusiast. I was a kid who opened every electronic item that he was able to get his hands on. After 10th standard, I had to make a choice – a decision of which course I would choose for 11th and 12th. I chose MPC (Maths, Physics, and Chemistry). It was clear that I wanted to become an Engineer in future.
I was from state board. We have schools up to 10th standard only. So, I had to join an intermediate or junior college for my 11th and 12th. The junior college which I joined was Narayana (as it was popular for MPC streams). The college offered intermediate board exam schooling plus coaching for the entrance exams of Engineering.
Exam Tips and Admission Journey:
In Telangana, we have TSEAMCET exam (entrance exam for Telangana Engineering colleges). After my 12th board examinations, I wrote Telangana EAMCET along with AP EAMCET, VIT’s VITEEE entrance exam (It’s a deemed university in Vellore), JEE Main (for all India colleges). The next step of Main is JEE Advanced.
I got a rank of around 19,000 in AP EAMCET and around 10,000 in Telangana EAMCET, which is considered a good rank (considering 1.5 lakh students took the exam).
To crack the EAMCET exam with a good rank, all you need to do is study from NCERT textbooks and solve the previous years’ question papers. There are many books available in the market for preparation.
Once the results are out, the next step to admission in an engineering college is counselling (You have to choose the colleges and the engineering courses you are interested in and arrange them according to your preference). You are notified about the date of counselling online on EAMCET’s official site. A few days after you submit your preferences, you will be given a counselling date according to your rank by EAMCET officials. On the given date and counselling centre, you have to be present with the required documents (The list will be on official site). There, your documents will get verified.
In a few days, your counselling results will be out. You will be given a seat in a course in one of the colleges you had selected (Or you may not be given a seat at all because of rank cutoffs. Then you have to go for the 2nd round of counselling). If you are happy with the allotted college, you can take admission (without donation). Otherwise, you can appear for the 2nd round of counselling.
College Life Experiences and Insights:
I got seat in ECE (Electronic and Communication Engineering) in a good and reputed college. I chose ECE because I was interested in Electronics since childhood. But I chose ECE over EEE (Electronics and Electrical Engineering) because I didn't want to study only Electronics. ECE deals with Electronics as well as Communication Systems, which is a very interesting subject. I am now in the 3rd year of BTech and over the past couple of years, my love and passion for ECE has only grown.
In BTech, you have 2 semesters every year and in every semester, you have 8 different subjects (5 theory and 3 practical). Sometimes, the subjects in one semester are completely different from the subjects in the previous semester. So, in 4 years of BTech life, you study more than 60 different subjects. All in all, you will develop conceptually as well as practically in the 4 years of BTech. You will have all new experiences and make memories which you will remember your whole life. I am enjoying my BTech journey.
