A Hindi-medium student's journey of becoming an entrepreneur: Robin Goel

I completed my schooling from a Hindi medium school at Ghaziabad. Just by mentioning Hindi medium school you would have surely understood my plight in the English dominant world. My mind was always full of ideas but when it came to explaining them in English, I failed. I was always passionate about developing apps and designing solutions to the problems. Hence, I was always sure of choosing Engineering as a career option. I prepared for the exam with full enthusiasm. I gave my exam in Hindi medium and really scored well.

A friend of mine told me about ITS Engineering College, Greater Noida. Relying on his suggestion I went to the campus. I interacted with the faculty and staff of the college. I told the people there about my challenge with English language. They checked on my technical skills and gave me the admission. The college was very supportive and they agreed to give me time and support for developing my command over language. The teachers during the entire session were very friendly and supportive. As they were aware about my problem, they always explained everything in Hindi as well.

Along with my studies, I also tried to develop my English speaking and writing skills. I took help of few apps meant for English speaking and writing. I also started watching English shows, debates and news on a daily basis. I used to write down ten words every day and then tried to use them. Slowly I started developing a vocabulary of my own. I started to speak with other students in English as well. I also had classes for communication at my college, which really helped me a lot. We were taught to use English as a tool in today’s business world. Hence the trainers always emphasised to make use of simple and precise words for the situation. The trainers also organised various exercises that helped us in expressing our emotions clearly in English

I started becoming more confident when it came to communicate in English. Apart from training, my college has an excellent pool of knowledgeable faculty. It has a great infrastructure and all modern amenities for students. We also used to have timely industry interactions, through which we were able to understand the functioning of corporate world properly. There were numerous fests in the college around the year. These fests gave us the opportunity to showcase our talents and get connected with each other.

In the mean time I also cleared the certification of CLAD (Certified Lab View Associate Developer). The college also has a super-efficient placement cell but when it came to my placement, I was very clear to fulfill my dream and not work for somebody else. Therefore I ended up in establishing my own startup which deals into grocery delivery. I am heartily thankful to my college for giving all support and guidance.
