Online lectures are being conducted to ensure that learning does not stop: Aakib, LNMIIT
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
All of us know that currently, we are going through a bad time. I know that most of the students must be missing their schools and colleges. So, I want to tell you about how my college is tackling the current situation.
On March 11, my college announced a nine days holiday due to COVID-19 scare. On the same night, a second mail came from our Director and all the students were told to vacate the hostels before March 16 and also, the college would be closed till March 31 as followed by the orders of our CM Ashok Gehlot. All the students reached their homes as the state was lockdown till March 31. Every student knows that even though we could bunk classes in engineering but we couldn’t skip our studies and assignments.
My college LNMIIT had started planning for online classes to ensure that COVID-19 does not adversely affect the studies of the students. The online classes began from March 21.
After attending more than 20 online lectures I could tell that online lectures are more effective than offline lectures because in offline lecture if you miss something important due to any reason then you cannot go back which is not the case in online lectures as each online lecture is recorded by the professor and is shared with the students. Also, there is no problem in clarifying the doubts as professors ask the students their doubts in the next session.
The best part is that you could submit your assignments through Google Classroom, which save the students from the hassle of finding the teachers office and give them the explanation about the source of the details added in the assignment.
However, the students of the core subject are finding it a bit challenging as understanding the working of an Internal Combustion (IC) engine without practically doing it is difficult. So, there are chances that the college might extend the semester.
Do you know what is the best initiative of LNMIIT in this situation? It is that they are asking students to submit the design of ventilators which can be made from the equipment present on the college campus. They are assisting the government and the students of the college who are stuck anywhere in the country.
The students of LNMIIT are participating at many start-up platforms which are trying to fight with this pandemic. I'm proud of being a part of the institution that is taking steps in the right direction in this difficult time.
