The in's and out's of IIT-JEE 2012
The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (popularly known as IIT-JEE or just JEE) is an annual college entrance examination in India. Students targeting the top-notch IIT's and a booming career in the engineering sector take up this painstaking exam. IIT-JEE or customarily baptized as JEE is an exclusive criterion for admission to seventeen colleges. Some of these colleges are Indian Institutes of Technology, IT-BHU Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad etc. It is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world with a success rate of around 1 in 45. The JEE has been noted for originality in its questions.
IIT JEE 2012 Paper Pattern:-
It comprises of two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers will consist of three separate sections on:
- Chemistry
- Physics and
- Mathematics
The questions are in objective form framed to test intellectual capacity, interpretation and analytical ability of entrants.
The answers for each of the questions are to be recorded on a separate, specially designed, machine-gradable sheet of paper (ORS Optical Response Sheet). While answering each of the questions the candidate is expected to darken the bubble(s) against correct answer(s) using hard black (HB) pencils only. In some sections, incorrect answers may be granted negative marks.
Eligibility: -
- A candidate can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years.
- The contender must have passed their 10+2 examinations from a recognized board.
- The candidates appearing in their final examinations of 10 +2 are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates belonging to General (GE), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and DS categories must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in their Qualifying Examination. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Physically Disabled (PD) categories must secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in the Qualifying Examination. The percentage of marks awarded by the Board will be treated as final.
- If the Board does not award the percentage of marks, it will be calculated based on the marks obtained in all subjects listed in the mark sheet.
- If any Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks.
