Colleges where after passing out, most students get high-paying jobs are called tier 1 colleges. As can be expected, older IITs fall under this category. On the other hand, colleges where students have negligible opportunities for getting jobs are called tier 4 institutes. As one can guess or imagine, tier 2 & 3 colleges fall between these two extremes.
Birla Institute of Technology, Patna is not in tier 1 or tier 4. Its majority of students do get placed albeit at lower salaries. Hence we can say that it's a tier 2 institute.
