Common Postgraduate Entrance Test is one of the most popular and widely attempted entrance exams in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It serves as a gateway for admission to postgraduate, PG diploma, and five-year integrated programmes offered by participating universities.
Every year, nearly 65,000 candidates appear for the exam, while the number of available seats remains limited, making the competition quite high.
The Common Postgraduate Entrance Test exam pattern includes 100 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within 90 minutes. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking, allowing candidates to attempt all questions without any penalty.

Kakatiya University, Warangal
Significantly new when compared to Osmania, Kakatiya University was only established in 1976. It is situated in the historical city of Warangal. It started out as a PG centre for OU in 1968 with only four departments - Telugu, English, Chemistry and Mathematics. It later came to be recognised as a full-fledged university with the support of OU. It has been awarded the 88th position in the Pharmacy category of the NIRF 2024 Rankings List. In addition to Pharma, the university is also popular for courses in Rural Development and other streams.
Telangana University, Nizamabad
Telangana University was established in the year 2006. Accredited with an NAAC Grade B+, the university is popular for both its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. On top of that, they also offer BEd and PhD programmes. Currently, they have a total of 26 courses on offer. The university is divided into one main campus and a south campus. Their operation is spread across a massive land area of 577 acres. Many students who appear for CPGET aspire to get admission to this prestigious university.
Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda
Located in Nalgonda, about 90 km from Hyderabad, Mahatma Gandhi University is another popular name among the CPGET participating universities. It is also accredited with an NAAC Grade B+. Earlier called Nalgonda University, it was established in the year 2007. The university strives to promote academic excellence and develop human resources in tune with changing times. At Mahatma Gandhi University, they also often involve faculty and students in community development projects through extension programmes. The university is particularly popular for courses like BE, BTech, MCA, BSc, MSc, and MBA/ PGDM.
Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar
Spread across a campus of 171 acres, Palamuru University is a CPGET participating university that is popular for its MBA and MSc programmes (flagship courses). At Palamuru, they also offer PhD programmes in at least 6 specialisations. Satavahana University, Karimnagar
Satavahana University was established in 2008 by merging PG departments at Osmania University and Kakatiya University. While the university is still pursuing an NAAC accreditation, it has already attained a UGC-12B status. Satavahana University is a significantly large university with over 160 public and private colleges affiliated with it. Popular courses offered by Satavahana University include BA Political Science, BBA, BEd, MCA, MSc, MBA, and LLM. JNTU, Hyderabad
The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University or JNTU is located in a sprawling 89-acre campus at Hyderabad’s Kukatpally. It also has 4 constituent engineering colleges located in Hyderabad, Kondagattu, Manthani and Sultanpur. It is one of the most popular and oldest of the CPGET participant universities. JNTU was established in 1972. They offer BTech programmes in 24 disciplines, MTech in 68 disciplines, and MSc in 10. Apart from these, they also offer 5-year integrated programmes, MS, PhD, BPharm, MPharm, etc. In 2023, JNTU made it to the top 100 engineering colleges in India on rank 83 (NIRF Rankings).
Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam, Hyderabad
Also known as Osmania University College for Women, Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam was established in 1924. Another name for the institute is Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University. It is located on a 42-acre campus in Kachiguda, Hyderabad. They offer undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses in the fields of Science, Commerce and Arts. The placements from this college get students an average starting package of at least INR 6 lakhs.
