CPGET Participating Universities 2026 - Osmania University or OU conducts the Common Post Graduate Entrance Test (CPGET) annually for admissions to various postgraduate programmes (in several streams) offered at OU and a number of other participating universities. The CPGET participating universities include renowned and popular names like Kakatiya University, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University, Satavahana University, JNTU, and Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam. CPGET 2026

Before exploring the participating universities, it is important to understand the CPGET exam itself. CPGET is one of the most prominent and widely taken common entrance tests in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It serves as a gateway for admission into PG, PG Diploma, and 5-year integrated programmes offered by the participating universities.

Each year, nearly 65,000 students apply and appear for the exam. However, the number of available seats in each programme is relatively limited compared to the number of applicants, making the test highly competitive.

The CPGET exam pattern consists of 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered within 90 minutes. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking, so candidates to attempt all questions without penalty.

Osmania University, Hyderabad

Established in 1917, Osmania University (OU) stands as one of India's most prestigious educational institutions, the seventh oldest university in the nation and the third oldest in South India. Located in Hyderabad, Telangana,  Osmania University has earned an exceptional reputation over more than a century of academic excellence, reflected in its NAAC Grade A+ accreditation.

The university operates on an expansive 1,632-acre campus and oversees an extensive network of over 720 affiliated colleges, alongside 8 campus colleges and 5 constituent colleges. With a robust student population of 300,000 and a dedicated faculty of 5,000 members, Osmania University offers comprehensive programs across diverse disciplines including Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, and Engineering. The institution also administers the Common Postgraduate Entrance Test (CPGET), further cementing its role as a leading educational authority in the region.

Kakatiya University, Warangal

Significantly new when compared to Osmania, Kakatiya University was only established in 1976. It is situated in the historical city of Warangal. It started out as a PG centre for OU in 1968 with only four departments - Telugu, English, Chemistry and Mathematics. It later came to be recognised as a full-fledged university with the support of OU. It has been awarded the 88th position in the Pharmacy category of the NIRF 2024 Rankings List. In addition to Pharma, the university is also popular for courses in Rural Development and other streams. 

Telangana University, Nizamabad

Telangana University was established in the year 2006. Accredited with an NAAC Grade B+, the university is popular for both its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. On top of that, they also offer BEd and PhD programmes. Currently, they have a total of 26 courses on offer. The university is divided into one main campus and a south campus. Their operation is spread across a massive land area of 577 acres. Many students who appear for CPGET aspire to get admission to this prestigious university. 

Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda

Located in Nalgonda, about 90 km from Hyderabad, Mahatma Gandhi University is another popular name among the CPGET participating universities. It is also accredited with an NAAC Grade B+. Earlier called Nalgonda University, it was established in the year 2007. The university strives to promote academic excellence and develop human resources in tune with changing times. At Mahatma Gandhi University, they also often involve faculty and students in community development projects through extension programmes. The university is particularly popular for courses like BE, BTech, MCA, BSc, MSc, and MBA/ PGDM. 

Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar

Spread across a campus of 171 acres, Palamuru University is a CPGET participating university that is popular for its MBA and MSc programmes (flagship courses). At Palamuru, they also offer PhD programmes in at least 6 specialisations. They also offer various other courses in streams like Chemistry, Mathematics, Political Science, etc. They have a large team of 181 teaching and 156 non-teaching faculty members for 21 departments across 6 institutes/ centres. They also have about 160 colleges associated with them.

Satavahana University, Karimnagar

Satavahana University was established in 2008 by merging PG departments at Osmania University and Kakatiya University. While the university is still pursuing an NAAC accreditation, it has already attained a UGC-12B status. Satavahana University is a significantly large university with over 160 public and private colleges affiliated with it. Popular courses at the university include BA Political Science, BBA, BEd, MCA, MSc, MBA, LLM, etc. They also offer PhD courses in the streams of Science, Humanities and Commerce. At Satavahana, they aspire to become a centre of prominence, ensuring quality, access, equity and values with innovation, knowledge dissemination, competency building, and extra-curricular activities in a holistic way that fits societal needs. 

JNTU, Hyderabad

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University or JNTU is located in a sprawling 89-acre campus at Hyderabad’s Kukatpally. It also has 4 constituent engineering colleges located in Hyderabad, Kondagattu, Manthani and Sultanpur. It is one of the most popular and oldest of the CPGET participant universities. JNTU was established in 1972. They offer BTech programmes in 24 disciplines, MTech in 68 disciplines, and MSc in 10. Apart from these, they also offer 5-year integrated programmes, MS, PhD, BPharm, MPharm, etc. In 2023, JNTU made it to the top 100 engineering colleges in India on rank 83 (NIRF Rankings). 

Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam, Hyderabad

Also known as Osmania University College for Women, Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam was established in 1924. Another name for the institute is Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University. It is located on a 42-acre campus in Kachiguda, Hyderabad. They offer undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses in the fields of Science, Commerce and Arts. The placements from this college get students an average starting package of at least INR 6 lakhs.
