Knowing the exam pattern will help in identifying the total number of questions that will be asked in the exam. The candidate also gets familiar with the marking scheme alongside developing a strategy for time management. The exam body prescribes the PUMDET syllabus for each subject in which MA and MSc courses are offered at Presidency University. Steps to prepare for an entrance exam are quite straightforward - 

• Understand PUMDET Pattern and Marking Scheme.
• Get the prescribed PUMDET syllabus for the applied course.
• Get all the study material you can to prepare better for PUMDET
• Create a daily and weekly timetable on how much material you can study regularly.
• Revise as much as you can. 
• Get proper rest. 

Since PUMDET is a postgraduate-level entrance exam, applicants are advised not to take its preparation lightly. Some foolproof ways to prepare for PUMDET 2026 are listed below. 

• Get familiar with test pattern, marking scheme and syllabus - Unless you are familiar with these details, your preparation strategy can be directionless, scattered and too much to deal with. Prior knowledge of PUMDET 2026 syllabus, pattern and marking scheme makes preparation journey smooth and hassle-free. 
• Make a timetable - Now that you know syllabus, divide topics into days/ weeks considering time left for exam. Also, dedicate time to revisions to ensure maximum retention. 
• Gather the right study material - Pick a couple of prep books or guidebooks for your chosen subject and stick to them. Do not get too many books, it will only create confusion. A simple Google search would help figure out what's best. Also, gather all sample papers and old question papers that you can. They're essential for practice. You can also look up mock tests online.
• Solve questions - Idea behind taking sample tests, etc. is to solve as many questions as you can. Practice makes perfect. You can also time yourself while solving these papers to improve your speed. On evaluating solved papers, you can also figure out what topics you find difficult. 
• Revise some more - Revise everything you have covered at whatever point in your PUMDET preparation. Focus more on the topics that you find difficult to score in. 
• Rest - Take essential breaks. Burnout is real. But do not get carried away, get back to studying after short breaks.

Having the right reference book will help in getting conceptual clarity. It will also help all the candidates in practising the questions in the right amount and fromevery topics. Tip: They follow the same Net pattern; however, they focus more on knitty details, which most of us miss while preparing. For example, one year they asked about the Baroque style of architecture. Now, most of us miss such information. So, choose one book of the history of English literature and read it thoroughly. They will ask a lot of questions about that, especially Post-structuralism, Post-colonialism, and Post-modernism.
