MHRD proposes to change school syllabus for Class 1 to 12

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has invited suggestions to revise syllabus for Classes I to XII. The main reason behind this proposal is to ensure that the content/curriculum is more balanced across subjects as prescribed by NCERT/CBSE. It is felt that at present students are under immense load of curriculum in cognitive and analytical area and due to this reason students are not able to develop skills in any other area. To made amends, MHRD has invited suggestions from teachers, academics, parents, students as well as other stakeholders associated with school education. The suggestions are invited till April 6, 2018.

Interested parties can submit their suggestions by going to the official website of CBSE. Thereafter, one needs to click on the link stating 'Inviting suggestions on rationalising curriculum/ syllabus/ subject contents for class I to class XII with the objective of all round development of students'. On clicking this link a new page will open where one needs to click on – Kindly provide your suggestions, and thereafter enter their suggestion in the prescribed format and lastly click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Further, it has been informed that the CBSE and NCERT curriculum documents are available at the below mentioned two websites:

  • http://www.ncert.nic.in/rightside/links/syllabus.html

Regarding the invitation of suggestion for change in school syllabus, HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar was quoted as saying, “There is an urgent need to rationalise the school curriculum because the objective of education is to prepare a good human being. Along with academic education, life skills, experiential learning, physical education and creative skills are needed”. He further added, “We need to develop a system where students get time for each of these and can progress in the areas which he or she likes most. Therefore, there is a continuous demand for rationalisation of the syllabus which many people believe is too heavy and inappropriate”.
