Sanskrit Universities in India

Sanskrit is one of the classical languages of the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages. It is a sacred language of Hinduism and also language of classical Hindu philosophy and historical texts of Buddhism and Jainism. Sanskrit has been taught over the past 3,500 years and its legacy has been continuing for a long while, enriching the true culture of India. Considered to be one of the oldest Indo-European languages for which substantial written documentation is present, Sanskrit is fast becoming a popular language choice among masses.

In 2015, many units of the media reported that there is a huge demand for the Sanskrit language in Germany. To cater to this huge demand for Sanskrit and Indology courses (in Germany) South Asia Institute of University of Heidelberg started a summer school for Spoken Sanskrit in Switzerland, Italy and India. Back then, Dr Axel Michaels, Head of Classical Indology at the University of Heidelberg had shared that 254 students from 34 countries registered and studied Sanskrit, Classical and Modern Indology course with them.

And now even India is recording increased enrollments in Sanskrit courses and many students are opting to pursue Shiksha Shastri and Shiksha Acharya courses along with various other Sankrit courses which are offered in Universities and colleges. Through Sanskrit, students can go on to become teachers, pursue their doctoral and become a professor if they want, become translators, become writers, poets and much more.

Sources share that this may have happened because there is huge demand as well as ample opportunities for Sanskrit teachers in government as well as private institutions.
