Patna University has a total of 10 constituent colleges. Patna University through its 31 departments, constituent colleges and 4 other institutes offers a wide array of UG, PG, diploma, certificate and doctoral level programmes in the fields of Science, Education, Humanities, Law, Commerce, and many other streams. Candidates need to complete Class 12 to apply for UG programmes. A minimum of graduation is required to apply for PG programmes. 

Nalanda Open University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of HRD, the Government of India and the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). NOU is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the International Council of Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU). Additionally, Nalanda Open University was established in 1987 under the ACT of Bihar Government, Nalanda Open University (NOU).

LNMU admission to all the popular courses, such as BTech, BEd, MBA and PhD is subject to a valid score in university/ state/ national-level entrance exams or is subject to counselling conducted by the university.
