The University of Kerala is known as one of the top state-run universities of the country. It is ranked at 5 under State Public University and 25 under the University category by the NIRF 2025.  The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved all the courses offered by KU. Moreover, it is also re-accredited by NAAC with an 'A' grade. MA distance courses offered by the university are also recognised by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). Hence, the Kerala University MA degree is valid across the globe.

Both MGU and Calicut University are popular universities in Kerala. In the NIRF 2023 rankings, MG University leads Calicut on 31st spot and the latter has secured 70th position.  Hence, ranking-wise MGU is a better option. However, the course fee is more economical at the Calicut University. MGU MA fees range between INR 1,900 and INR 1.8 Lacs and at Calicut University, the MA fee range from INR 950 to INR 82,500. Candidates can consider their prorities (location, fees, and more) and make a choice.

The University has released the median package details in the NIRF report 2024. During 2023 placements, the median package offered to PG (2-year) students was INR 3.26 LPA. Earlier, the median package offered in 2022 was INR 4.80 LPA. Looking at the past three years' records (2021 to 2023), a fluctuating trend was observed in the median package of PG (2-year) courses. Candidates seeking UG admission at Kannur University should fulfil the course-specific eligibility criteria prescribed by the university. They must submit all the documents required to support the information furnished at the time of online registration. A list of these documents is given below:

• Print out of completed online application generated by the candidate
• Print out of registration fee & university fee remitted by the candidate by online
• Original mark lists of the qualifying examination
• Certificate to prove date of birth
• TC from the Institution last attended
• Course & Conduct Certificate
• Original Community/Caste Certificate /Anthyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority House Hold (PHH) category certificate (EWS) /The Income and Assets certificate for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), if applicable
