Web Designing: Mistakes you should avoid

We serf many sites everyday. We visit various site everyday. There are many site which we visit often and many which we visit once in a week or so. But some are our favorite sites which we visit every day. Some of the web sites are so badly desi<img style="border: 3px solid black; margin: 3px 4px; float: right;" src="https://images.shiksha.com/mediadata/images/1269411483phpACTI3c.jpeg " alt="" width="150" height="110">gned that we are not able to search the info from them or we do not want to visit them again because of the bad tab placement or complexities of the site or the language used in that. There are lot more thing which a web designer make while developing a site. Some of them are very common which we came across often. Here we are discussing few among them: <ul style="text-align: justify;"> <li>Site is about what? User must know it: Every day lost of new traffic comes to you site. If the site is unable to hold that new visitor with it then it will be difficult for it to survive. If the visitor will not able to figure it out what the site is all about than in few second he/she will close the site and most probably move to some other site to get the same info for which he/she has visited the site. The site should be have that idea very clear and able to express the same to the visitor. </li> <li>The content should be easily scannable: The site should be easily scannable. While creating a new site you should always remember that this is site not a book where you have plenty of time to read it. Here in e-business the visitor is always in hurry and lack of time. So to retain the new and old visitor all the info should be scannable and handy. The info should be well defined in bullets, points, header, sub-header and lists. Or you can use filter to help the reader to scan the info easily. </li> <li>Do not use unreadable fonts: While creating or developing a new site always use fonts which are very simple and readable. There are some fonts which are so sophisticated and readable too. You should always remember that your main motto here is to deliver the info to the reader not to beautify the site that it will become unreadable for the visitor. The process should be so comfortable that the visitor should get all the info easily.  </li> <li>Never use small font: Always make sure the font is readable. Never use tiny font or the font which is difficult to read. The person he/she is visiting your site do not have enough energy or time to read the unreadable font because it may be that he/she might be visiting the site just for fun or may be get some new info. No one is there going to use zooming feature for reading the site at least.</li> <li>Do not ask the visitor to open the site in new browser window: While applying this logic if you ask the visitor to open the site in a new browser window then the visitor will not go the any other site. But this is wrong tendency, because if your site does not have the relevant data than surely the visitor will move to other site. To ask him/her to open the site in a new browser window might encourage him/her to not spend some extra time to open this site when you can open other site in the same browser easily. </li> <li>Do not ask for registration if it is not really necessary: if a user just want to get information from you site not other things than you must be straight in allowing him to do so without asking him to register with your site. Do not force him/her to register up and leave an email id with you if it is not really important. </li> <li>Never subscribe something automatically to something: Do not subscribe any thing like newsletters or and wallpapers or site calendar to the visitor without his prior consent. Sending the unsolicited emails or information in which the user is not interested will not help your site in any ways. </li> <li>Do not use Flash unnecessarily: Do not use Flash unnecessarily if it is not required in the feature. It takes time to load so it may annoy the visitor while using the site. So use it only if it really requires for the site. </li> <li>Do not use music unnecessarily: Few years back the web developers always tried to use some sort of music on the site, but to apply this function they fail badly. At times it creates problem in loading the site as the site became heavy with music and that annoyed the visitors. So always avoid using the music on site if it is not required. </li> <li>Give instruction to user to before he/she play music file: If a file require the music to play than you must tell him/her how to use this file. You must flash a speech box for the same so that the user can use the application easily. Always make sure that the user is in control, and he/she know how to use the application or give them instruction to use the play button to avoid unnecessary jamming. </li> <li>Never fill your homepage with badges: Always try to place the badges of communities and networks at the “About Us” page rather than placing them on home page it give the site more professional look. </li> <li>Include all important contact details: The website must have the important contact details of the Contactees. This gives bad impression to the visitor that if he/she want to contact you than he finds no contact details. The simple keyword based URL improve your engine raking compared to other site. It will make the site easily accessible for the user to identify the content before visiting the site. </li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Use light and cooling colors: Use better color scheme for your site. Use light and eye cooling colors rather than the harsh and dark colors. The color combination should not be so that the visitors feel pain in eyes after visiting the site for few minutes.
