LLB is not a Professional Program: DU
Bachelors of Laws (LLB) are amongst the most coveted programs which inspire students to begin their career in law. But Delhi University does not consider LLB as a professional program. Studying law at Delhi University is a big loss for students as they lose one year because they start practicing one year later than a regular law student.
Planning to take admission at the most coveted faculty of Law at Delhi University..?? Be prepared to accept lot of challenges as it does not consider LLB as a professional course, moreover, you won't get an option to re-examine your papers in case of any incongruity.
A Law student has filed a case in RTI, enquired about the provisions for rechecking and revaluation of papers but it was found that the university does not permit students pursuing law, to apply for revaluation. Thereby, University replied to RTI application that, rechecking system is there but revaluation is not permitted. It has also said that the applicant was asking for a clarification/ explanation, thereby it becomes a matter of interpretation.
But the authorities did not replied properly, and moreover, stated that it is not a professional course as per DU norms as it is not in the schedule. So it is a post graduate program and not a professional one. A professional course in law is offered as a five-year course in other colleges. Indeed, it is true in other sense that students studying at faculty of law cannot apply for rechecking but can apply for revaluation.
Students of professional colleges and DU will share a different level while beginning their career, acclaimed by BAR council. Basically, LLB is a professional course universally but in India there are two types of law degrees offered. Secretary of the Bar Council of Delhi High Court, Bar Association, D.K Sharma made it clear the two types of law degrees in India as one is a five-year course and the other is a three-year course, which a student can pursue only after he/she has done a basic graduation.
