Mystory@Yaash Agarwal: How I chose my course and college
Till Class X, I wanted to do BBA from a renowned college in my city, Kolkata. I always wanted to take up Commerce, so there was no confusion in class XI. In class XI, I gradually started to grow my interest for media. In class XII, I finally realised that I must take Media Science in Graduation. But it took nearly six months to convince my parents that my decision was right. Finally, my parents agreed and after my XII Board exam, I started looking for colleges which could give me what I wanted. Then I came to know about iLEAD (Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Development), Kolkata, which offered a comprehensive course in Media Science, that covers journalism and mass communication, media management, advertising, PR, video production, photography and much more. The amount of practical exposure offered by this institute under this programme was irresistible to me, due to its immense industry oriented nature. This made me choose iLEAD.
How I cracked college admission
It was in the month of June when I sat for the iLEAD entrance exam. I was not prepared at all because I was on vacation. I was very nervous and scared because the previous day I had taken entrance exam of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata for Mass Communication. To be honest, the entrance exam of St. Xavier’s College turned out to be very tough for me. That’s why I was very nervous for my iLEAD entrance exam. On the day of the examination, I wrote my paper very well. Then they made me sit with eight unknown faces for Group Discussion which was a bit scary for me. Then came the Interview session. I was confident yet nervous. My hands and feet were too cold, yet I entered the cabin and gave my interview. And voila! After a week I received a mail from the college that I had been selected. I was very happy.
My college experience
It’s less than a year in college and I already feel like on top of the world after joining my college. I am in my second semester and it’s actually tough to say which class I like to attend more. But for now, I would say that Photography and Videography class is very interesting. I like to be in my class with my friends as it is always buzzing. When not in my class I hang out at the college terrace or canteen which is a common spot for chilling out.
The college continuously provides an array of extra-curricular opportunities to the students and expects them to be a part of the same. Also, the Corporate Department offers us internship opportunities which I apply for every time. Apart from all this, I have recently completed my short term course on Event Management offered by iLEAD including some practical experience under industry experts.
Here at iLEAD, I am learning what I wanted to learn along with practical exposure which is the best part of learning. Mentors of the college always help us in any given circumstances and always guide us to be on the right track. I have felt a lot of positive changes in myself. I have become organised and more confident day by day. Thanks to iLEAD for such wonderful experiences.
