IIMC Delhi is a goverenment university which was established in 1965. Being a government institute, the fee is not very high and is made affordable by the means of the scholarships. IGNOU admission cycle opens twice in a year i.e. January and July. The registrations for January session usually begins in December and close by March. The July session for ODL/ Online programmes begin in May and continue till July. The mode of application is online for all the courses.

 For a few courses, such as MA, BA, MLib, etc., admissions are completely based on merit in the last qualifying examination. Students must go through the Panjab University CHD-conducted/ national-level entrances and then appear for the university-level selection rounds for final admission at Panjab University.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Film, TV and Animation Studies (BVBFTS) offers over 10 full-time and part-time Diploma courses in the field of Film, Television, and Radio. The eligibility criteria for admission to all the UG and PG programs are based on a candidate's aptitude for the media industry and their performance in the admission test and PI round conducted by the department. Candidates who have completed their Class 12 from a recognised board and have the required aptitude for the chosen programme are eligible to apply to BVBFTS. All full-time UG Diploma programs offered by the department are of one-year duration. The admission procedure involves a personal visit to the office to deposit the application form, followed by an interview where the candidate's look, appearance, and determination for a career in the media industry are judged. After the interview, the candidate has to appear for an entrance test for which they have to pay the required registration fee and collect the admission test entry ticket. The first list of selected candidates will be displayed on the website within ten days of the admission test. If selected, the candidate has to pay the first installment of the fee within the specified time to confirm their admission. The courses offered by BVBFTS are not affiliated with any university or government body, but the course curriculum and practical training are considered much better than any Indian university.
