Why these 10 MBA colleges are on MHRD’s NIRF top 50 list

The Ministry of Human Resource of India every year releases a list of best MBA colleges in the country. While most of the IIMs and other top colleges capture top ranks, there are other well known colleges that find a place in the list owing to their facilities, exemplary faculty and A-grade Infrastructure and successful placement record.

While passing out of an IIM may be the ultimate dream of every MBA student, there must be a realization of the fact that the world doesn’t end with the IIMs. There are several other colleges that provide quality education in the field of management and ensure a secure future too.

We have listed a few colleges that find a place in the NIRF’s list of top 50 MBA colleges in India for 2016. These colleges found a place for themselves in the list for maintaining high standard of education and infrastructure.

The ranking process is conducted by the National Institutional Ranking Framework on behalf of MHRD. 

The colleges are ranked on the basis of five basic parameters-

• Teaching, Learning and Resource
• Research and Professional Practice
• Graduation Outcomes
• Outreach and Inclusivity
• Perception

These parameters have been assigned overall weight of 100 marks and further divided into sub-heads, including student-teacher ratio, placement metric, peer perception, competitiveness etc.

Indian Institute Of Forest Management, Bhopal-Rank 8

The Indian Institute of Forest Management is ranked no 8 on the NIRF’s ranking list (2016) on the basis of a healthy faculty-student ratio and quality of the faculty. The college also promises decent placement offers with Rs 6.4 lakh as the highest pay package offered in 2015.

Thiagarajar School Of Management, Madurai-Rank 15

Thiagarajar School Of Management ranked no 15, spends a major chunk of its resources on infrastructure. The Madurai based institute spent Rs 10.18 lakh on library facilities in 2015. To encourage and promote extra-curricular activities among its students the college spend Rs 20 lakh in 2015.

Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore-Rank 17

The Vellore Institute Of Technology, boasts of a highly qualified faculty with about 77 teachers having Ph D and MBA degrees. The number of only PhD faculty is as high as 54. Total teaching experience of the faculty is 913.75 years.

Indian Institute Of Information Technology And Management, Gwalior-Rank 22

The Indian Institute of Information Technology And Management was established in 1998. The college, located in Gwalior, offers four academic programmes namely, MBA, M Tech, IPG (Integrated Post Graduate) and Ph D. In the NIRF list 2016, the college is ranked 22 after scoring more than 80 points in RPC and Perception.

Fore School Of Management, New Delhi-Rank 23

Fore School Of Management, New Delhi, established in 1981, has produced 2598 managers over the last 10 years. Besides producing competent managers, the college focuses on their students’ overall growth. In 2015, the institute spent about 56 lakhs on library and Rs 30 on extra-curricular activities. The college also boasts of a strong placement cell. The highest pay package offered during placement process (2015) was Rs 7.5 lakhs. 

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute Of Management, Delhi-Rank 24

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute Of Management has a highly qualified faculty with 43 teachers having Ph D degree and 62 having PhD and MBA qualification. The college has produced over 112 entrepreneurs in last 10 years. In terms of annual placement package, the college registered annual average salary for 2015 batch at Rs 8.2 lakh.

Jaipuria Institute Of Management, Noida-Rank 26

The Jaipuria Institute of Management was first established in Lucknow in 1995 and currently the institute has four campuses across India - Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur and Indore.

Jaipuria Institute of Management offers PGDM programmes in Financial Services, Retail Management, Service Management and Marketing. The institute has been ranked 26 on the NIRF list for 2016, with respect to high score in Graduation Outcome (GO). Teaching, Learning and Resource (TLR) points of 75.70 is satisfactory, too.

Great Lakes Institute Of Management, Manamai Village, Tamil Nadu: Rank 31

The Great Lakes Institute Of Management is ranked 31 on the NIRF list of top 50 MBA institutes in India. The management institute recorded a high annual placement package of over Rs 12 lakh in 2015. In addition to great placement, the institute boasts of highly qualified International faculty.  According to The NIRF report, Great Lakes has 64 faculty with MBA and PhD degrees.

Rajagiri Business School, Kochi-Rank 37

Started in 2008, Rajagiri Business School has done exceptionally well in the last eight years to be ranked 37 in the NIRF ranking list for 2016. The data of last four years, shows almost same number of female students a male students pursuing PGP course from the institute.

In 2012-2013, out of 119 students, 69 were male and 50 were female. In 2013-2014, out of 111 total students 61 were male and 50 were female. In 2014-2015, out of 161 total students 94 were male and 67 female.

Jagan Institute Of Management Studies, Delhi-Rank 43

Jagan Institute Of Management Studies, Delhi offers two-year full time PGDM and three-year part time PGDM programmes in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Operations. Founded in 1993, the institute has over the years made a name for itself in the field of management education. In the last 10 year, JIMS has produced 2500 management graduates out of which 50 have established themselves as successful entrepreneurs.
