Analysis of MAT in detail

A focused approach is needed by students to score a high percentile. Knowledge and understanding of the complete pattern of competitive exams like MAT helps in getting admission in the dream college.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2020 was held in February. It was held in two modes i.e. Paper-based (PBT) and Computer-based (CBT). This article discusses the detailed analysis of both modes of MAT 2020.
CBT and PBT mode for MAT were conducted on February 02 February 16 respectively. There was no major change in the pattern of the exam. This would have benefitted those students who focused on previous year paper patterns.
Short Analysis of Exam Pattern
- Total number of questions: 200 (divided into five sections)
- All questions were in Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format
- Every correct answer: One mark
- Every incorrect answer: -0.25 mark
- No sectional time limit
- Level of difficulty: Average
- Total Marks: 200
- Time Duration: Two hours and thirty minutes

Mathematical Skills

- This year, more questions were from the Arithmetic part
- Difficulty level: Average to Difficult
- Questions were lengthy and a bit time-consuming, thus good speed was required
- Around 40% of total questions were topics such as from Profit - Loss, Interest, Percentages, Time & Work, etc
(Arithmetic)
The remaining questions were from topics such as Ratio, Proportion & Variation, Geometry & Mensuration, Equations, Permutation & Combinations, Probability, etc.
- Language Comprehension
- Around 50% of total numbers questions were in Reading Comprehension sections
- There were 5 Reading Comprehension passages with a total of around 20 questions from each passage
- The difficulty level of Reading Comprehension was average
- Remaining questions were from topics such as Antonyms, Synonyms, Errors, Idioms & Phrases, Fill in the Blanks, One Word, Jumbled Paragraphs, etc.
- Overall Difficulty Level: Average
- Data Analysis and Sufficiency

- Maximum questions were from Data Interpretation (DI)
- Other questions were from topics such as Graphs, Pie Chart, Bar Graph and Chart, Line Graph, Data Comparison, etc.
- Difficulty Level: Average to Difficult
- Good speed and accuracy was must for an effective score in this section
- Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
- More questions were from Logical & Analytical Reasoning
- The number of questions from Critical Reasoning questions was less
- Around 50% of total questions were from topics such as Family Relation, Statements- Causes and Effects, Reasons, Analogies, Direction, Incorrect Terms, Statement – Assumptions, etc.
- Section was a bit lengthy
- Difficulty Level: Average to Difficult
- Indian & Global Environment

- This section was given less focus by the majority of candidates as its score is counted for calculating the percentile
- Questions of this section were based on Government Policies, Rules and Regulations, Budget, GST, CAA, Constitution, Awards, Capitals, National and International Events, US Trade Policy, etc.
- A thorough reading of these topics is required to attempt all the questions in this section
Score to Percentile Prediction
The score of 110 to 115 could be enough for getting 90 percentile and more
