Every Struggle is a Lesson in Disguise: Anushi Singla

I still remember those times when my friends and I sat together at the canteen in between our lectures, doing those rare ‘intellectual talks’ about the future. We were almost at the end of our second year of graduation when terms like “What next- MBA? Post-Graduation? Foreign studies? Internship? Job?” started to haunt us.

But I believe that is the story of every graduation student, or at least the majority of graduation students. There are very few students who know what they want from their life and even if they do, there is no one to guide them.

My advice- the above mentioned line is rubbish. We all know what we want from our lives. You need to know your worth and follow your heart. Most of us lack the confidence and determination to follow our dreams. Life isn’t easy; you are not getting it handed on a silver platter.

I’ve always been a girl who has lived in the moment. I’ve enjoyed my college life to the fullest. I was a very known name in my department. I was good at presentation skills, communication skills, and management skills, which eventually paid off and I became the cultural head of my department. I conducted a lot of activities in my department under my title, and that’s not all- I came out to be among the top five students who topped BBA in our university.

Having a lot of experience in my pocket, I had confidence that whatever life would throw at me, I’d ace it with grace. I knew where I wanted to be one day, but I also knew there were a lot of obstacles and struggles that I would have to go through to achieve what I wanted, and I was more than ready to face them. Like I said, there is no easy way out. Every struggle is a lesson in disguise, which is immensely important to know where you stand, and what your strengths and weaknesses are.

It was while doing graduation in BBA when I actually fell in love with the corporate world. Coming from a business background added to the fuel. I wanted to make my name in the entrepreneurship world, but who would trust a 19-year-old girl with money? I didn’t either; I knew there were miles to go before I could stand in front of my dad asking him to fund my business. So, I chose the next best option- I decided to do MBA. I studied hard for my MBA entrance exams, but competitive exams are… well, very competitive.

So, I dropped a year and did a one-year diploma from Chandigarh in Marketing Management. I learned a lot about myself in that one year of time- the kind of person I was, the kind of vibes I gave, where I lacked, where I aced, etc. I used that one year to develop myself mentally, to get to know myself better. I am not saying that you should drop a year too, what I’m suggesting is that it’s okay if you do. Just don’t let it go to waste. Getting through MBA entrances is tough and making a life decision is even tougher. It doesn’t matter if you make your decision late but make sure when you have finally made up your mind, you are not compromising with it. Make sure you are doing what you are doing because you want to do that. Don’t let others make your decisions.

One of these decisions that I took for my life was joining JIMS, Kalkaji for my post-graduation in MBA. I reappeared for MBA exams and got 94.17 percentile in MAT. I had a lot of offer letters in my hand and my phone was bombarded with calls from MBA colleges. Out of all the options and interviews that I gave, I decided to be a part of JIMS, Kalkaji. Now, I love the faculty here; the placement cell is very good, and the academic structure is very well-organized and up-to-date.

There has never been a day when I have regretted my decision. This college is giving me opportunities to do things that I never knew I could do. My confidence is increasing day by day and it is making a path for me to achieve my goals in life.
