Why I chose Retail after BSc: Priyanka Awasthi
Right from childhood, Science was the most interesting subject for me as I was very curious to know about scientific things like how the Earth revolves, how the bulb glows etc. When I was in class Xth, Science and Mathematics had become my favorite subjects. Based on my interest, I opted for Science stream with Mathematics. I did my class XI – XII from CBSE board. After that I did done BSc from University of Kanpur. After completing my graduation, I found my interest towards Retail sector, and wanted to start my career in the same. To be able to gain better learning and enhance my skills and knowledge, I needed to join a retail management course. While searching for colleges, I got to know about JIMS Sector 5, Rohini. I read many reviews about college and saw the past record of the college which was very positive. According to the ex-students, the college gives numerous opportunities to the students to show their talent and helps them a lot in every aspects whether it is live project or summer internship. Adding on to this, the college conducts many guest lectures and workshops. Once I have joined the college, I felt that my decision was right.
How I cracked college admission
I did not have enough time to prepare for CAT or MAT so I gave ATMA, and qualified in the same. The paper includes questions based on Quantitative Skills, Verbal Skills and Analytical Reasoning. I prepared for the exam through self-study and did not join any coaching classes due to short timing, but I would recommend joining a coaching to those willing to appear for CAT or MAT as coaching classes give a clear direction and guidelines for preparation of exam.
Once I cleared ATMA, I received calls from many colleges, but found JIMS sector 5, best among all. As I read a lot of reviews and positive comments about college, I decided to visit the college campus. To be able to secure admission in the college, the candidate had to clear two rounds – first was Group Discussion and second was Personal Interview session. Once my GD-PI was over, I met the seniors and they told about the numerous opportunities, workshops, guest lecture live project and internship that college campus provided to every student. I waited for the result – I was selected. I was trying for 2 more colleges, but when I visited them, I did not get as much satisfaction as I got in JIMS campus, so the latter became my preferred choice.
What I gained from my college years
My journey in JIMS is going really well. JIMS campus provides a supportive and caring environment to every student which helps him/her develop socially, physically and intellectually. It offers a wide range of opportunities for leadership growth, social activities and team building. We spend our time in college by keeping ourselves busy in presentations, assignments, workshops and activities that really help us increase our self-confidence. I like to attend each and every classes because in every lecture we get to learn something valuable. The faculty is extremely knowledgeable and they share their experiences and knowledge with the students which makes the classes interesting.
A lot of curricular activities are conducted at JIMS. I participated in many activities like “Building Foundation to meet Corporate world” conducted by HR club and “Snake the Ladder” conducted by Retail club and got certificates for the same. Right now I am a part of the Retail Editorial Team. These activities help a lot in developing the personality of an individual and increases the confidence level. The main focus of the teachers is to provide right direction to students and help them hone their managerial skills. Group discussion and Mock tests help a lot in improving ourselves.
Joining JIMS has changed me and my life completely. Today, there is a huge change in my confidence level and personality. My weaknesses have transformed into my strengths. Here we are taught how important it is to manage our personal and professional life. The important thing is that JIMS makes every student believe that he/she can achieve great heights in life.
