An aspirant, appearing for the Group Discussion (GD) round of an entrance process, is assessed on various parameters. Here are some key points that you must keep in mind when preparing for GD as these are some of the key parameters that the panel keeps an eye on.

During the GD round, the judges not just check your intelligence along with your communication skills. They also judge you on the grounds of presence of mind, sentence making and putting the right point at the right time.

Here are some of the basic parameters on which the panel would judge you:

  • Knowledge of the subject: Speaking isn't enough, you must talk relevant because the judges check the knowledge of the student on the given topic. Good knowledge of the topic provides confidence during the discussion and better points to keep in front of the judge.
  • Listening: One must carefully listen to others and talk relevant in response. Apart from speaking, one should pay attention to the discussion. We should listen to other's points carefully, too. This will also help in the next elocution on the basis of what you agree with and what you disagree with.
  • Communication skills: Using good words during the discussion and a fluently speaking person can leave a good image in front of the judges. A good speaker can make a place for himself in the discussion. Speaking clearly and loudly will affect the panel but always talk sense. Use such words that can be understood by everyone.
  • Body language and appearance: The confidence in you is reflected by your body language which is a must in GD. The panel judges you by observing your confidence in speaking and time of putting a point at the right time. Appearance here is related with your dressing sense for the GD. You must wear a formal dress. Never wear a casual dress because the panel judges you on this basis, too.
  • Leadership skills: How one can lead a team is judged by the panel. This skill is required for team build-up and better performance of a task. It shows how one can manage to make a balance between different teammates.

Usually, eight or more judges are present in a typical GD panel set up. They all are well-experienced and hold a special qualification.
