A group discussion is meant to select a confident and potential candidate for the job position.

Are you going to appear for an interview and you have no idea about the group discussion? Don’t worry I am here to help you out.

In today’s world, competition has increased drastically. Actually, the purpose of a group discussion is not just limited to filter out the number of candidates. A group discussion helps the interviewer to take a better decision on the selection of candidates.

A group discussion has 5 main areas to focus on:

1. Knowledge about the topic

This is something that confuses every fresher that how they could know about the topic and its depth. So let me clear you, yes it is important to know about the topic and not just the topic, you must have clear facts and figures about the topic.

But it depends on the type of job and it decides the level of knowledge required.

That simply meant if you are appearing for a job that has communication application then they will look for a candidate with good communication skills and jobs like CDS requires a person with good general knowledge.

Sometimes, the interviewer gives you time before starting the GD. In this time you should collect factual information and data through the internet.

2. Do not be quiet and try to speak first

It is very important to speak first in any group discussion. This shows how enthusiastic you are and it puts a good impression too.

From a company’s point of view, it shows that you can take responsibilities.

In between group discussion do not sit back and stay quiet. Share your opinion or point of view wherever possible.

3. Be loud, clear and confident

Your voice should be loud enough so that the interviewer can easily hear you and it must be clear otherwise there is no point in speaking in a group.  You must be confident because your selection depends on your intelligence and confidence in a group discussion.

 4. Do not fight, scream or shout

You will observe that many candidates are screaming and shouting to get noticed. Believe me, it doesn’t go well.  Don’t do such things to get noticed otherwise you will create a bad impression on the interviewer and please avoid any kind of argument in between the discussion. Show your good side and be humble.

5. Body language

One of the most important things which gets noticed subconsciously is your body language. Do not sit like a lazy guy or girl, sit straight forward-facing like you are ready for group a discussion.

Your body posture determines your work ethic, not a single company on earth wants lazy employee so keeping that thing in mind and maintain your posture accordingly.

Group discussion is an activity focused on the evaluation of candidates where the interviewer tries to filter out the incompetent candidates for the further round of interview. GD mainly focuses on the confidence of the candidate and will to take the initiation and power to lead a team in the organization. Keeping all these points in mind simultaneously you must be aware of current issues in the country and social issues like ‘Love marriage or arrange marriage’ type questions and you would surely beat the competition.
