Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI) have become an important phase of clearing an entrance exam and getting admission to some of the prime institutes. Apart from the written test, this phase of the entrance process checks an aspirant’s knowledge and intelligence, and communication skills.

Here are some tips and tricks that could help you sail through GD & PI round of an entrance exam:

Focus Areas for GD & PI

  • You should focus on communication skills and work on your English vocabulary. More than knowledge, communication skills are required to ace a group discussion. This knowledge of vocabulary will make you confident during the discussion. The need is for confident and sensible candidates so it is a must to speak confidently in front of the assessing panel. You could watch movies in English language that can indirectly enhance your vocabulary as well as communication skills.
  • Go through weekly magazines for current news and general knowledge. If you are attending any coachings then discuss some topics with your teachers. Focus on recent and current affairs topics that have the maximum possibility to be asked in the GD. The main strategy for GD preparation is to read and listen to English books and news. This will help in vocabulary and communication. You could also make a group of mates and discuss a particular topic together.

Top Books to Prepare for GD & PI

  • A Complete Kit for Group Discussion, by Arihant Publications
  • Master the Group Discussion & Personal Interview by Sheetal Desarda
  • Group Discussion On Current Topics, by Upkar Prakashan

Don't go for more books and reference, just focus on these books with some English magazines and newspapers.

You could also opt for coaching from institutes, including T. I. M. E. and Career Launchers. Coaching can just guide you for the exam but the main part depends on you.
