Students’ Speak: One should always support their opinions with proper facts and figures
By: Lakshay Saini
Selection and rejection of someone during a GD totally depend on their skills, abilities and the will to accept someone’s opinion and be in a healthy conversation.
“Never be too rigid to accept undiscovered things,
Maybe even you need some improvements.
So I am starting this article with a quote which in my opinion might be applicable to almost all the readers and if taken into consideration, can turn around any difficult situation ever faced during life and can do wonders in polishing someone’s career. Coming to the topic, as we all know, good skills in a group discussion and personal interviews play a significant role in uplifting one’s career and if someone has good communication skills, they can easily be a team leader and perform better then everyone else. A group discussion must be a rich experience for the aspirants with everyone chipping in with their points and should also be a learning experience. Here I am going to share my experiences - the difficulties I faced, tips and tricks I implied, my impression I tried to build on panellists and some suggestions based on my experiences.
At first, the most important thing to consider is the feedback and points of improvement which are shared by aspirants and the panellists during the previous interviews or discussions. That feedback helps a lot in improving presentation skills and help us handle tough situations during interviews. I talked to many seniors and read a lot of blogs about the feedback of the candidates who have faced GDs. I went completely prepared with full research about the organization for which I was giving an interview and this completely reflected in my results. I answered all the questions very confidently and all of my answers were satisfactory enough for the panellists.
A group of 30 students from about 150 candidates was created by the selectors through an exam and the two final stages were considered most important which were the group discussion and personal interview by the panellists.
Selection and rejection of someone during a GD totally depend on their skills, abilities and the will to accept someone’s opinion and be in a healthy conversation. The main reason which leads to the rejection of candidates is their aggressive behaviour during GDs, negligence to understand someone’s point and not being a group player. So in conclusion, instead of arguments, one should always put down your thoughts on paper, initiate the discussion if having well knowledge about the subject or listen to others if one does not have proper knowledge. Also, one should always support their opinions with proper facts and figures.
