By: Ritika Pandey
Mostly, the companies focus on GD with their actual requirements for the job. Thus, the students require all personality traits with quiet a balance to clear the GD.
Group Discussion (GD) is one of the most essential parts of the placement processes. This allows one to stand for themselves without being noticed of the marks or grades achieved. Thus, GD makes a student learn communication skills while impressing the jury with their answers. GD is strictly meant to check the interaction, behaviour and personality of a student to step ahead with any recruiter. However, knowledge of the subject apart from communication skills is also an important thing to have a balance in future success.
GD is held before the interviews in most companies to check the accurate participation of the student required by the company. Mostly, the companies focus on GD with there actual requirements for the job. Thus, the students require all personality traits with quiet a balance to clear the GD. Let's look at the important aspects of GD:
- Communication with peers, jury and other members is an important aspect that is checked by any recruiter. This step focuses on how a student takes on the challenges with self-respect as well as respecting others with decent actions and words. The behaviour of the student within the group and discussions with the group is another step calculated by the jury of the placement cell.
- Putting forward your views is another important point. You know the topic much or not, it is important to focus on the discussion going on within the group and participate while responding with your opinions and views to the points discussed.
- Leadership and decision-making is a major skill required to look after any company's requirements or even while working in your own company, too. Thus, focus on the factors responsible for your steps and check them while developing your personality. Furthermore, being open-minded is also an important point for life and GD both.
- Other important aspects included are confidence in oneself, good and balanced attitude, problem-solving or critical thinking, analysing skills and well-versed knowledge of the subject.
- The most important area to focus on is to get noticed by the jury while making a good first impression. Come up with ideas that could attract the jury towards you.
- Also, if you do not know much about the topic technically or with facts and figures, do not panic and show the topic a different perspective. Start your conversation about the topic from a different angle. Moreover, if the discussion is getting ahead with no such solution towards the end, bring your leadership skills to life and get the topic on its route.
- The last and most important point to remember is to appreciate what others think in the group. This will not only play an impression on the jury but also to the team members you were sitting with.
