10,000 more PG medical seats in next two years
Every year thousands of students took entrance exam for various streams and different colleges. Most of the students try really hard and prepare a lot for clearing these exams. One of the biggest reason behind conducting these exams and competitions is that the number of seats are limited and the number of aspiring candidates are increasing day-by-day. The few importance exam for which lakhs of students apply and thousands compete for the single seat. Medical entrance exam, IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, and CAT are among few which are on the top list.
Looking after such a tough competition and limited seats the government from time-to βtime take many initiatives to ease the situation.
Medical stream is one of the most sort after in India. After the completion of 10+2 lots of the science students took medical entrance test. Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announced that there would be an additional 10,000 post graduate medical seats in the country in the next couple of years. He said this in an annual convocation held at the Lady Hardinge Medical College.
He said, "We are also encouraging the medical colleges to start new PG courses and also have more PG seats as per the revised norms. I expect the total increase in PG seats during the session 2010-11 beginning September would be 4,000 seats.β
The government also introduced a centrally sponsored scheme with budget of Rs. 1,350 crore for the purpose of upgradation of facilities for increase in the number of PG courses and start PG in new discipline.

He said every year the number of students graduating form the medical college but the ration of doctor and patients is still very low. We need more doctors to serve in the rural area of the country. Every doctor who graduated from the medical college wants to practice in metropolitan city rather than in rural areas. So this is also important that we need those people so who willing want to serve the rural population.
