All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) conducts entrance exam every year to fill up over 1,200 seats across 15 prestigious institutions in India. The selected students undergo a four-and-a-half-year teaching programme and a year of internship before they become doctors. 

It is that time of the year when medical aspirants start preparing for one of the most sought-after medical entrance exams, AIIMS entrance exam 2020. Conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a group of autonomous public colleges in India which are known for their superior medical and research facilities, the AIIMS entrance exam is held every year during May-June to fill up over 1,200 seats in 15 institutions located across India. Students, who qualify this exam, take admission to the four-and-a-half-year teaching course followed by a year of internship. 

AIIMS, the medical institute which is also among the Institutes of National Importance, was first established in 1956 in Delhi.

Eligibility for appearing in AIIMS examination

To begin with, a candidate must know whether or not they are eligible to take the AIIMS entrance exam. A candidate will be able to sit in the computer-based examination if they meet the following criteria:

  • The applicant must be 17 years of age at the time of applying or before December 31, 2020.
  • Must have passed 12th board examination from any recognised boards with 60 per cent marks if General category and 50 per cent if belonging to ST/SC/OBC category.
  • The subjects taken in 12th must be Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
  • If they already qualified SSC examination or ISC (Intermediate science), then they are eligible to appear for AIIMS 2020 too.
  • Besides Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are deemed eligible.

Exam Pattern

AIIMS entrance exam has multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and Reason-assertion format to evaluate students. A total of 200 multiple choice questions will be provided which have to be solved within 3 hours and 30 minutes. For each correct answer, students receive one mark. For a wrong answer, however, there is a deduction of one-third marks from the total. This makes the examination trickier and even more competitive.

It is important to keep track of AIIMS MBBS Dates and deadline if an aspirant plans to appear for the exam. Here are all the important dates related to AIIMS entrance exam 2020:

AIIMS Examination Registration

Once the dates are out, a candidate needs to go through a registration process. Here are certain things an applicant must know before registering for the exam. 

  • Register yourself as a candidate at aiimsexams.org.
  • Fill basic identification, personal details and upload images on the portal.
  • Scanned images of your photo, left thumb impression and signature in JPG/PNG/GIF format will be asked for.
  • Once the applicant is done filling the form, they get a chance to make corrections. 
  • Next, the application is screened based on which either the application is selected or rejected. 

Accepted candidates will go through another registration process which will be final:

  • Another form, which will be released in February 2020 needs to be submitted online. The applicant can generate the code on the website to login again.
  • Fill the remaining details which comprise of qualification and preferences.

Next, admit cards will be issued which you need to collect to sit in the examination.

Reservation Policy

AIIMS has a reservation policy in place where a certain percentage of seats are reserved for students belonging to certain categories.
