There are several careers similar to physiotherapy. But to be successful in any of these, the candidate must be extremely proficient and possess immense patience.

Physiotherapist

A physiotherapist is a trained and efficient professional who helps the injured or ill patients to improve their pain, body movement and agility. They also rehabilitate patients suffering from critical injuries and chronic pains. The job of a physiotherapist is to attend the problems of the patients through certain exercise, massage, and techniques. Thus, they help patients suffering from physical problems due to injury, disease, illness, and ageing, to live a normal life. Their methods of treatment not only alleviate pain but also restore the function of different body parts and retain their agility.

However, to be a physiotherapist, a candidate must acquire degrees like BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy), MPT (Masters of Physiotherapy) or diploma in physiotherapy (DPT) and rigorous hands-on training.

After, acquiring his degree from a recognized university, the candidate must seek his registration from the registered institute so that he can carry on with his practice. Initially, a physiotherapist may take up a job in hospitals, nursing homes, health centres, sports academy, and rehabilitation centres etc. But as he gains experience in the field, he may start practicing privately. He may also work as the personal physiotherapist of the sports personnel.

There are other career prospects for a physiotherapist. Here in this article, we have tried to explore the other avenues for a physiotherapist. The careers similar to physiotherapy are listed below:

  • Audiologist: Audiologists are professionals who deal with hearing impairment in patients. They diagnose and manage the auditory problems as well as ear problems of the patients. They also suggest exercise and offer hearing aids to the patients, so that they can hear.
  • Exercise Physiologists: The Exercise Physiologists show exercise to the patients in order to improve their chronic pains and cardiovascular functions. They help patients to retain the mobility of certain body parts through regular exercise and regain strength and flexibility.
  • Occupational Therapists: The occupational therapists chiefly attend disabled children and elders. They offer exercise, therapies and techniques to these patients so that they can develop, recover and improve the skills necessary to do the day today works.
  • Recreational Therapists: Recreational Therapists mainly deals with disabled children and adults. They plan and implement recreational treatment programmes for their patients. These programmes include art and craft, dance, music drama, swimming, playing, outdoor activities like picnic etc. These are aimed to develop certain skills among these disabled persons and to improve their physical, social and emotional health.
  • Speech-Language Pathologists: Speech Language therapists or Speech Therapists diagnose and treat people with speech problems. The problem of speech, communication and swallowing disorders may be caused by stroke, brain injury, hearing loss, developmental delay, Parkinson's disease, a cleft palate, or autism.  Speech Therapists help these patients to regain their ability to speak.
  • Physical Therapists Assistants and Aides: These persons are the assistants of Physiotherapists and work under the guidance and supervision of the physiotherapist. They help patients to regain movement and manage pain.

To conclude, we may say that there are several careers similar to physiotherapy. But to be successful in any of these, the candidate must be extremely proficient and possess immense patience.
