Effective preparation tips to crack NEET

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the important as well as difficult exams for medical and dental aspirants. These aspirants should focus on scoring high in NEET to pursue their dream career, i.e. medical or dental. In this article, we will discuss some good tips to secure a high score in NEET 2020.

This year, the students have got some extra time to prepare for NEET. Hence, they should make effective use of these extra days to perform best in NEET 2020.

Every student must know the exam pattern to devise a plan and ease their preparation process. Let’s briefly discuss the exam pattern of NEET to get an idea of the exam. There are three subjects or sections, i.e. Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The total number of questions would be 180 questions (90 from Biology and 45 from Physics and Chemistry each). For every right answer, one would get four marks and for every wrong answer, one mark would be deducted. The time duration of the exam is 180 minutes, i.e. three hours.

After completing the syllabus, the students should focus more (but not fully depend) on some of the below-mentioned topics of every subject with some useful tips. These topics are based on the previous year’s paper analysis.

The subject-wise important topics and key tips are given below:

Biology 

  • Biology is one of the important sections of NEET, which comprises of 50% questions in the exam. Hence, the students should focus on this section to secure high scores in the exam.
  • Focus equally on Zoology and Botany as both have equal weightage (50% - 50%).
  • Understand and learn the important theories and its concepts.

Important Topics: Ecology and Environment, Biotechnology, Reproduction, Genetics, Cell Biology, Physiology of Animals and Plants, Morphology, Human Health and Inheritance and Variation.

Physics 

  • Physics is a bit difficult and lengthy section. So, do not waste time on one question, whenever one gets stuck on one question it is always advised to move on to the next question without wasting time.
  • Practise every day to enhance speed while doing the calculations and also, choose the questions wisely to score well
  • Go through the paper first for a few minutes and at that time find the questions which are easy and could be solved in the least time, and attempt those questions first.
  • Make a list or handbook of important formulae to revise them quickly.

Important Topics: Thermodynamics, Mechanics, Optics, Nuclear and Modern Physics, Magnetism and Current Electricity.

Chemistry 

  • Chemistry could be a scoring section in NEET if every important concept is clear.
  • Maintain good speed in this section right from the beginning.
  • Try to attempt maximum questions in this section as it would be a theory-based section and comparatively easier.

Important Topics: General Organic Chemistry (GOC), Chemical Bonding, Molecular Structure, Coordination Chemistry, Mole Concept and Chemical Equilibrium and Kinetics.

General Tips

  • Give maximum mocks as possible
  • Be focused and prepare well
  • Work on the strength and weakness
  • Try to attempt maximum questions in Biology and Chemistry
  • Try to complete the Biology section in less than 90 minutes and the Chemistry section in around 30 – 35 minutes
  • Utilise the saved time in Physics to score well in it also
