NEET-UG Exam Analysis by Meritnation

Finally, the wait was over and AIPMT in its new avatar “NEET – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test” was unveiled. On the whole, according to Meritnation experts, NEET 2013 can be said to be of the same difficulty level as AIPMT 2012 barring Physics. Though the syllabus of the NEET 2013 was same as that of NCERT, the difficulty level of the questions asked was higher than those in the books prescribed by NCERT. Few questions were beyond the scope of NCERT syllabus as well but this should undermine the overall quality of the paper. Students should be happy with what they got.

In Chemistry, there were no major surprises. The section had a good mix of questions from Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. The section tested basic concepts rather than tedious calculations and any student thorough with the basic concepts should score highly in this section. Overall, this section would have given few hiccups to the students. There were 19 questions based on the syllabus of class XI and 26 questions based on the syllabus of class XII.

In Physics, the weightage of all the chapters was more or less the same, though there were some exceptions as well. There was no question on the chapter “Oscillations”. At the same time there was a question from the chapter “Rotational Dynamics” and topic “Rolling of a rigid body without slipping”. This topic was not mentioned in the NEET 2013 syllabus. Overall the Physics section in NEET 2013 was challenging as compared to the Physics section in AIPMT 2012.There were 22 questions based on the syllabus of class XI and 23 questions based on the syllabus of class XII.

In Biology, the questions were challenging. If one was well versed with the books prescribed by NCERT, one should be able to answer most of the questions. Some of the information mentioned in the questions could not be found in the books prescribed by NCERT. There was some ambiguity in few questions caused due to the difference in the information provided in the old and the new edition of the books prescribed by NCERT. There were 44 questions based on the syllabus of class XI and 46 questions based on the syllabus of class XII.
