The moment a student thinks of making career as a doctor, clearing the AIPMT comes to their mind. All India Pre Medical test (AIPMT) is one of the most prestigious exams in the country. With the exam round the corner, it's time for some magical study and out of this world smart work.

From now on, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the exam for the year 2012. This exam is being conducted for the 15% merit positions for the Medical/Dental Colleges of India as specified in the directive of the court and will be governed by the rules and regulations specified for the same by the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from time to time.

Exactly to know this we spoke to our expert Dr. Sourav Banerjee. Here are some valuable tips from Dr Banerjee to tackle stress and to manage your mind during the preparation time.

Q. With just few days left what should students focus on and what is the right way to revise?

Ans. The pattern of exam has gone through considerable changes. The paper only includes objective type questions now. Reading is must to clear an objective type exam. Students should make notes meticulously as it will help in the last minute preparation. Make notes of each and everything so that you are clear about every subject.

You should have a good grasp on the subject both factually and in terms of latest developments. The trend is more towards asking more current affairs-based questions around a particular subject. In biology, most of the questions are genetic, molecular biology, cellular biology and so on.

Q. Last minute tips to prepare for AIPMT?

Ans. Well I feel the last minute study should begin three months before the exam. Regular, planned, and strategic revision is very important. Each and every student should focus on their strength rather mugging up new things. They should not focus on the weak topics instead, work o the strengths.

If you correctly answer more than 70% of the part, you'll definitely get the seat. Now the seats have also increased. Securing 70% after the cutoff is fine. While writing the exam, students should not focus on questions they are unsure about. They should attempt the questions about which they are sure because every single mark counts and can make a difference in the final percentage.

Q. What kind of rank is required to get into good colleges?

Ans. I feel good colleges are those that offer good number of seats. In the recent times, the number of seats increase every year. So the concept of good college and rank does not appear as such. If you take each college from the various zones such as Western India, Central India, Eastern India, Northern India, and Southern India, the number of seats is the only thing that matters.

Q. Should students pick their specialisation based on rank or interest?

Ans. In AIPMT, there is no such thing as specialisation at the graduation level. They have to get into MBBS or BDS. After completing the graduation, they can opt for Post graduate program. That is known as AIPGMEE (All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination). Then there are number of branches for which one can opt for and choose the specialisation. First they have complete the basic course that is MBBS or BDS.

Q. What are the most popular streams?

Ans. If you are scoring high and getting a good rank, then you have ample options. But if you are not left with many choices, then you will only have the leftover piece of cake in your plate. Well, it is a personal choice or interest. During the graduation level, every student develops interest for a particular stream. So I would say it totally depends on the individual's choice. In the recent time, I must say that Radiology is booming like anything.
