Medicos to undergo 1 year rural posting

One year rural posting must for MedicosFew weeks back, the government shared its plans to increase the duration of the MBBS course from the existing 5.5 years to 6.5 years, introducing a year of mandatory rural posting for medical students.

 

Under the proposed system, after successful completion of the 5.5 years of regular MBBS study including the hospital internship, students will have to take up one-year of house job in the form of rural posting in a designated area, before they become eligible for their MBBS degrees. As until then, the degree would be treated as provisional. To implement the same, the health ministry wrote to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to mandate rural posting for medical students and aspiring doctors and to include it in the MBBS course curriculum.

 

Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad revealed to TOI that during this one year of rural posting, medicos will be closely connected with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) program, which will help in improving the poor health care services in rural areas suffering from a shortfall of seven lakh doctors. Chairman of MCI Board of Governors K K Talwar told PTI that a committee has been set up to take care of the whole process and it will also formulate various rules and regulations regarding the posting of aspiring doctors. Once the committee is ready with all the modalities, then it will be sent to the Health Ministry for approval. Talwar added that this rural posting will help aspiring medicos to hone their skills and learn senior doctors who will guide them in their rural posting.

 

During this one year rural posting, medical students will stay in touch with a designated rural hospital and a local medical college. They will also get a stipend from NRHM for their services. (Read full story)

Surely......This is a very good idea.........It will be helpful for the development of health in the rural areas of India....Especially the states which has the HDI is too low.
