Scholarships for medical students in India: Becoming a doctor is a dream career for many Science stream students and their families. It has always been a popular and respected career choice in India. Government also wants to encourage students from various background to become doctors and serve people of nation. Hence, they provide many government scholarships for MBBS students.
To enroll in MBBS program, students need to appear in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET UG). It is a highly competitive exam. This year, nearly 23 lakh students registered for the exam and 12,36,531 students have cleared the exam. Approximately, 56% of those who appeared in exam have cleared NEET exam in 2025. NTA is conducting body for NEET exam. It is for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSc Nursing, Veterinary and other medical and paramedical courses in India.
Scholarships for medical students in India offers financial support to students who wants to pursue MBBS courses. These scholarships cover tuition fees, accommodation, and other expenses. There are various scholarships available for medical courses in India by government and private bodies. Educational institutes also provide scholarships for MBBS students in India.

Scholarships for Medical Students In India
Following are some of the scholarships available for MBBS aspirants:
National Scholarship Portal: Students who are planning to pursue MBBS course in India can apply for National Scholarship Portal also known as NSP. It has various schemes such as the Central Sector Scheme and post-matric scholarships for SC/ST students. These schemes are for MBBS. Students can find NSP schemes based on economic background, merit, disability and category.
To apply for NSP, you need to register on official website using Aadhaar number. Fill out application form, upload documents and track application using application ID and password.
Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojna is to provide financial assistance to students who come from poor families. Students can apply for this central sector scholarship for MBBS, BDS, BAMS and BHMS courses. It offers tuition fee of up to INR 3.00 lakh per annum and a fixed maintenance allowance of INR 1.0 lakh per annum. It can also be applied through NSP. Students need to provide identity proof while applying such as PAN card and Aadhaar card, also educational certificates, income proof and admission proof MBBS course.
All India Pre Medical Scholarship Test (Secondary) is conducted across India for students who want to take admissions to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, and BUHMS courses. It is one of the main pre-medical entrance scholarship examinations in India. To apply for AIPMST (Secondary), students need to qualify or appear for Class 12 exam and NEET exam. It offers up to 100% of 4 year tuition fee waiver.
ONGC Scholarship is for professional courses like MBA, MBBS, and Master’s in Geology or Geophysics. It is a merit based scholarship that supports around 2,000 students every year. It provides around INR 48,000 per annum for books, tuition and other expenses. The scholarship is nearly INR 4,000 per month. 50% of ONGC are reserved for female students.
Vidyavridhi Medical Scholarship is a 4 Year Scholarship Programme for students pursuing MBBS. It is being offered under the CSR initiative of Yashoda Hospitals Group. It covers the tuition fees for four years by offering INR 10,000 to INR 50,000 per academic batch. To apply for the first time, students need to fill “New Student Registration Form” and to renew it, they need to fill the “Scholarship Renewal” every year.
TATA scholarship for MBBS students: TATA provides many scholarship for MBBS students including Tata scholarship for MBBS students, Tata Trusts Medical and Healthcare Scholarships. These scholarships are offered based on financial requirement and academic merit of the student. It can cover a part of or all academic fees. To apply students should have a minimum score of 60% or 6.0 CGPA in Class XII and the family income should be under INR 2.5 lakh annually. This scholarship covers up to 80% of tuition fees.
Swami Dayanand Education Foundation Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is also for students who aspire to do MBBS course in India. It offers up to INR 50,000 per year. To apply for this scholarship, the students should have a high percentage in Class 12. They should have 80% in Class 12 (CBSE board) or 70% (other boards) and for second year students, they need to have a minimum of CGPA 8.0.
MBBS course is expensive in India especially if you do it from private colleges. The fees can range from INR 20 to 25 lakhs annually to more than INR 30 lakhs. It can go to around INR 1.2 crore or even more for the complete MBBS course. The fees vary depending on the colleges. Government medical colleges are comparatively extremely affordable. There fees could be as low as INR 1 lakh to INR 5 lakhs. However, it is more difficult to secure the government medical seats in India. Hence, MBBS scholarship in India is extremely beneficial for students who are looking for financial aid while pursuing their medical undergraduate degree.
