Specialisations in Surgery: Scope, description, salary, courses and colleges
Apart from general surgery, there are other surgeries specialisations such as breast surgery, cosmetic surgery, aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and dental surgery.
Master of Surgery in General Surgery (MS General Surgery) is a three-year post-graduate course in the field of surgery. The eligibility for this course is an MBBS with at least a one-year internship. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) are some such entrance exam for admission to this course. General Surgery is a part of Surgery which manages the surgery of intestines inclusive stomach, esophagus, liver, colon and also of the hernia and thyroid gland.
The period of Masters in General Surgery course is three years, offered in six semesters, together with the examination. If a candidate in the same subject has finished the two-year Postgraduate Diploma Course, the time of examination, along with the period of training, will be two years.

Eligibility
To pursue a course in the field of General Surgery, students need to follow the following eligibility criteria.
- Students have to qualify 10+2 examination with Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
- After 10+2, students have to complete the MBBS degree from a well-known university.
General category: Indian and Foreign Nationals holding Overseas Citizens of India/Person of Indian Origin (OCI/PIO) cards are entitled to admissions under general category.
Foreign/NRI category: Foreign nationals with PIO/OCI cards or Indian nationals or non-resident Indian (NRI) supported by either brothers or parents or spouse or sisters having an NRI status are qualified for admissions under Foreign/NRI category.
Internship
Students finishing their internship on or before April 30, 2019, are entitled.
Registration
Candidates should have attained permanent registration with State Medical Councils/Medical Council of India and should give in the same on or before the start of classes.
Admission Process
The admission is completely based on the merit and the universities and medical colleges carry out common entrance examination for the candidates. Every year different institutions and universities carry out the postgraduate medical entrance examinations for the MS course. The entitled candidates from the written examination will be called for the interview and counselling process.
