Work to curb ragging
The father of ragging victim Aman Kachroo has urged a group of school students in Delhi to work actively to curb ragging.
Dr Raj Kachroo was speaking at an interactive session organised by the Aman Movement against ragging, launched a few months after the first-year medical student’s death in Himachal Pradesh in March 2009, at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, recently. Aman was a DPS Saket alumnus.
“Those who passively watch someone being ragged are as much responsible for ragging as those who actively indulge in it,” he said. Dr Kachroo used real-life examples to point out how people are conditioned to the idea of ragging right from childhood. Ragging is abuse of power, he explained and added that each individual had a choice on whether to say no to it or be victimised.
Dr Kachroo explained how lucky the students were to have been blessed with the gift of education. He emphasised that they must use it to distinguish right from wrong. He suggested that each student should live by values.
Principal Dr DR Saini said the students were in a unique position to contribute to society and that “those who get the best from society must return the best to it.”
The Aman Movement aims to root out ragging from all schools and colleges.
The job has its challenges, the biggest being “handling customers and effectively solving their problems with limited resources”, says Suri. Also, job timings require a great deal of setting and resetting of the body clock. “There are phases of very intense physical activity, followed by breaks,” Suri adds. “We have to constantly adapt to different time schedules, which means altering meal times and sleep habits. Quality time with family and friends must be planned as per the roster.”
